If we have to believe the story books, those where the good old days when men really where brave—
0:44
—then the world was inhabited by a fearless breed of men, men afraid of absolutely nothing.
0:52
"That's right! Absolutely nothing!"
0:58
Absolutely nothing?
1:00
"Absolutely!"
1:09
"Well—uh—practically nothing!"
1:28
Yes, ever since the world began, men have been scared.
1:32
The brave knights of old had the same cold beads of perspiration—
1:37
—their hair stood on end—
1:40
—their palms got clamming—
1:43
—their hearts pound—
1:45
—their stomachs flopped and bounced—
1:49
—frightened and they got heated too, being normal human beings.
1:55
Scared man has automatically his fear machine which starts running—
1:56
danger DANGER danger DANGER danger
1:59
—wakes him up all over and prepares them to recognize the danger.
2:04
Nerves go into action and wake up a couple of glands.
2:08
The glands come through with a shot of adrenaline—
2:11
—and all hell breaks through!
2:16
But it all makes sense.
2:18
Nerves cells get after.
2:25
You see more clearly—
2:28
—you hear more keenly—
2:32
—muscles tense—
2:35
—your body is ready to act and acts at.
2:40
But to active top speed calls for extra energy.
2:44
That's where the liver comes in: this is the fuel tank.
2:49
The fuel is sugar, and here's where it's stored.
2:53
Getting scared gets it out, out to the bloodstream to your muscles that needed.
2:59
To get it there quicker, your hearts pomp faster, and your breathe harder—
3:05
—bringing more oxygen to change that sugar into strength.
3:10
And here we are. Scared, yes, but ready!
3:15
Ready either to get away from the danger, or stay and fight with extra strength.
3:21
That's the best thing about this: you can make it work for you, instead of against you.
