Axel Key
(1832–1901)

Rector and professor of pathological anatomy at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. Key made important discoveries and detailed descriptions about the anatomy of the human brain. He was a contemporary of Alfred Nobel and had a role in the Karolinska Institute being given responsibility for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Member of the Swedish Parliament from 1882 to 1887, where he sat on the high school committee.
