"Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken", also called "Zion, or the City of God", was written by Newton for his 1779 hymnal Olney Hymns Hymnal. It is based on Psalm 87:3 and Isaiah 33:20-21 and has been described as Newton's best composition. It is usually sung to the hymn tunes "Austria" by Franz Joseph Haydn, "Lux Eoi" by Arthur Sullivan, or "Abbots Leigh" by Cyril Vincent Taylor.
