Royal Society of New Zealand

Royal Society Te Apārangi, as it is now called, was founded in 1867 as The New Zealand Institute. In 1933 it was renamed Royal Society of New Zealand, which remains its legal name. The Māori epithet "Te Apārangi" means "group of experts".
