  • An inter-editorial dispute has caused the use of this template, to determine what pages are appropriate to transclude to the Index: page. (Cygnis insignis.) I claim that the field at the right hand of the index layout, titled “Table of contents,” should include only the table of contents. The resulting edit dispute occurred because of the desire to include the list of illustrations. This should not be included because illustrations are not contents. TE(æ)A,ea. A list of illustrations often follows a list of the chapters or sections in a work. They are both part of listing the contents of a work. There is no problem with including a list of illustrations in that field, should a contributor wish to do so. Personally, I don't because of the way it increases the amount of scrolling needed. However, I can see the utility in doing so as a means of tracking progress through all the contents of a work. Note that our Help page for this field uses the phrase "Usually this will provide links to the chapters in the Main: namespace". This does not preclude adding more detail.
