DNBer?[edit]

Saw that you added a biography to the DNB today, very nice. Just in case you are interested, we have Wikisource:WikiProject DNB an active project that is always on the lookout for people to help with the 63 volumes of biographies that face us. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:47, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

We have scans for these works, and we usually edit those in situ and transclude them back to the main namespace. It allows proofreading against the images too. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:17, 28 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

William Marlow[edit]

Hi, and welcome to the DNB. Noticed you've been spending some time in volume 36 with a couple of articles. William Marlow looks awesome, thanks. That being said, in its current format, it is unable to link properly to other pages within this project. So we need to adjust it for that purpose. The notes below are my feeble attempt to guide you through this introductory process...if you get stuck, leave a note on my talk page...

From what you have accomplished so far, it seems as though it might help to show some basic navigation around the article creation process. I have renamed your article link Marlow, William (train) to enable you to repeat the process in creating a functional DNB article. The link and page are already created for you and entitled Marlow, William- and can be found immediately below your renamed link. We will rename this article upon successful completion of this project.

Before you edit your page click the edit button at the top of this page, and compare it to your original edit. Forward any questions, if any, you might have on my talk page. Now, go back into the read mode for this page...

You will notice on the new page the highlighted number 184 in the left margin which corresponds to the djvu page that is transcluded onto your screen. When you click on that number it will take you to the djvu page for editing (using the edit button at the top of the screen). Save your edited version before leaving the page.

The Proofread of the month is a great introduction into editing these pages as well...JamAKiska (talk) 17:48, 4 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

We can review this process with Leitch, William Leighton. JamAKiska (talk) 18:18, 4 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Check the 'view history' tab on djvu page 16. Compare revisions to identify the minor adjustment I made to only that page. The editing of the actual article looks good. Guidance for link names can be found in the DNB style guide (follow the links above from sDrewth) when time permits. TOC number 5 of DNB project In summary, for links, stick to purely the full name and dates of birth (b.), death (d.) or periods of flourishing (fl.) to distinguish people. Using this method helps others link to your work. Give it a try on your page and I will stop back through and see how you did. Good luck, and thank-you for your help. Removing training link as it served its purpose. JamAKiska (talk) 12:52, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

{{DNB lkpl}}[edit]

Just saw that you are adding plain links for qv links within DNB. We are encouraging the use of {{DNB lkpl}} which can be used in the number of ways that the links need to be formatted. Using the template gives us a better handle on the links, and may allow future formatting and management into the future. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:12, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
