The Laws of Matzo Used for the Mitzvah |
דיני מצת המצוה |

Paragraph 1 - We do not have a non-Jew knead or bake the matzo used for the mitzvah, nor do we use a deaf person, a madman, or a child. |
סעיף א - אין לשין מצת מצוה ולא אופין אותה על ידי אינו יהודי, ולא על ידי חרש שוטה וקטן. |

Paragraph 2 - The Ro"sh would exert himself when it came to matzo used for the mitzvah. He would stand there while it was made, hurry the workers, and help with its preparation. It is good for everyone to do this — to deal with the mitzvah yourself. |
סעיף ב - הרא"ש היה משתדל במצת מצוה ועומד על עשיתה ומזרז העוסקים בהם ומסיע בעריכתן, וכן ראוי לכל אדם לעשות, להטפל הוא בעצמו במצוה. |

Paragraph 3 - One who kneads after the onset of the prohibition should say while kneading, "All crumbs that fall during the kneading and preparation, and also the dough that sticks to the pots, I nullify." Thus they are nullified before they exist. |
סעיף ג - הלש אחר זמן אסור חמץ יאמר בעת לישה כל פירורים שיפלו בשעת לישה ועריכה וכן בצק הנדבק בכלים אני מבטל אותם, כדי שנמצא שמבטלן קדם המוצן. |

Paragraph 4 - We do not make designs, like drawing the shape of an animal or a bird on the matzo. However, everything done with the comb so that it doesn't swell is permitted, as is putting holes in the matzos. In any event, one should hurry to make them and not leave them sitting. Rem"a: The matzos should be crackers, and not thick like other bread, because crackers do not rise quickly. |
סעיף ד - אין עושין סריקין המצירין, דהינו לציר בפת כמין חיה ועוף. אבל כל מה שעושים אותו במסרק כדי שלא יתפח, וכן מה שמנקבין המצות, מתר, ומכל מקום טוב למהר לעשותן שלא להשהות בהם. הגה: ויש לעשות המצות רקיקין, ולא פת עבה כשאר לחם, כי אין הרקיקין ממהרין להחמיץ. |

Paragraph 5 - We do not make [matzo] on Passover that is a tefach thick. |
סעיף ה - אין עושין בפסח פת עבה טפח. |

Paragraph 6 - Do not be lenient with regards to the stringency not to make pandish or pladonish. |
סעיף ו - אין להקל במה שהחמירו שלא לעשות פאנדי"ש או פלאדוני"ש. |

Paragraph 7 - Do not put full eggs in the matzo so that it bakes with them. |
סעיף ז - אין לתן ביצים שלמים במצה שתאפה עמהם. |
