אלכסנדרית f. Alexandrian. Kel. XV, 1 א׳ ספינה Mish. ed. (Tlhm. ed. אלכסנדריא ס׳) Alexandrian ship, i. e. Sea ship with water reservoirs. Sabb. 90a, a. e. א׳ נתר Alex. nitron. Tosef. Nid. IV, 17 Cleopatra א׳ מלכת (ed. Zuck. יס--) Egyptian queen. - Pl. אלכסנדריות, v. אלכסנדרי.
אלל (sec. r. of אול, v. אול; cmp. עלל) 1) to circle. Pi. אילל to go around; to espy, track. Cant. R. beg. (play on חור n. תורה) איללת ד״ת אחר thou didst search after the words of the Law. Pesik. R. s. 47 hafar (Job XXXIX, 29) מאלל לשון has the meaning of espying (ed. incorr. יליל, v. ed. Friedm. p. 190b). - [2) to point out; 3) to tie around; to be strong; v. אל, אלי, אלה, אילן &c., a. אלם.]

אלל h., אלל ch. m. (b. h. אלל Job XIII, 4; v. אליל; cmp. הלל) soft, lax obyect, whence fatty substance, ofal of meat. Targ. Job. l. c. -Hull. IX, 1 (Gem. 121a, diff. of opin. as to what kind of offal is meant in the Mish., v. מרדקא). Ib. המכונס הא׳ the offal gathered (as a ball). Zeb. III, 4. - Toh. I, 4 אליל. Meil. 7a וכ׳ ביה דלית כיון א׳ dlal, because there is no substantial value in it. Zeb. 35a בא׳ פיגל if one had an inappropriate thought about alal of fowls (which is fit to eat).
אללא or אוללא m. (אלל; cmp. b. h. דרך) treading the wine or olive press; quantity put into the press at a time. B. Mets. 105a בא׳ . . . . . באתרא הא Ar. (ed. או׳) the one Rabbi treats of a place where they ordinarily put one khor (measure) into the press at a time, &c. Esth. R. to I, 2 (referring to Esth. l. c., and Neh. XIII, 15 'in those days'; play on a'la a. al'lay; v. next w.) א׳ וכ׳ ווי 'wine pressing' (on Sabbath, Neh. l. c.) and woe' (persecution as punishment) were those days marked for.

אלליא m. pl. (v. preced.) woe-makers, a word coined for playing on הוללים (Ps. LXXV, 5, a. e.). Lev. R. s. 20; a. e.; v. ווינייא for correct vers.
אלם (b. h.; אל, v. אלל) 1) [to surround]; to connect, tie (cmp. אסר. חגר); intr. to be tied up, excluded, lone- ly, mute; v. אלם, אלמון I, אלמנה, אולם. - 2) to grow, be strong, v. אלם. Cmp. אלמון. [Cmp. אלם Ps. LVIII, 2, LXX (i~~, a. v. אולם.]
אלם ch, intr. אלים (אלים Pa., עלים) (v. preced.) 1) to be or gromw strong, to grow. Targ. I Chr. XXII, 12 (3) אלם (h. text אמן, Var. עילם). Targ. O. Deut. XXXI,. 6; 7; 23 ed. Vien. א׳ (ed. Bel. ע׳, v. Berl. Targ. O. II, p. 59). - B. Bath. 124a; 135b (he left them) וא׳ דיקלא a. slender palm-tree and it grew thick. -- 2) to tie, v. אלומא. -- 3) to be mute; v. Ithp. אלם, אילם m. (b. h.; v. אלם 1) cmp. חרש) mute, unable to speak, also ignorant. Ter. I, 6; a. fr. -- Ruth. אלמוג m. (b. h. אלמגים עצי, אלגומים ע׳) 1) red coral. Tosef. Kel. B. Mets. III, 13; Kel. XIII, 6; Sabb. 59b; Y. ib. VI, 8b top. - 2) pl. אלמוגים, אלמוגין a species of cedar- tree, prob. coral wood (v. infra as to various opinions). R. Hash. 23a; B. Bath. 80b sq. כסיתא א׳ almugim is coral (apparently a confusion of coral and coral-wood). Y. Keth. VII, end, 31d אלוים א׳ alm. is the aloe-wood (agallochum); (Gen.
