ביניתא f. (cmp. בינא III; P. Sm. 520) binitha; 1) a small fish (collect.). B. Kam. 19b ב׳ דאכל חמרא an ass that swallowed fish (something unusual). B. Mets. 79b bot. תקלא אכרסה ב׳ according to the size of its belly is the weight of fish (if you buy by weight, have the belly first removed; diff. in Ar.). Ib. 59b bot. (prov.) if one has a hanged one in his family, say not in his presence בי׳ זקוף hang the fish up; Yalk. Ex. 349 בינתא (corr. acc.); iib. Lev. 617 בניתא. בינתא I f. collect. noun, or בינתא pl. (v. בינת) the inside part, whence the kernel of seeds. B. Bath. 18b bot. בב׳ אי as to the grains (of mustard). Gitt. 69b ניזדהר מב׳ let him guard against swallowing the seeds. Sabb. 67a כמונא ביני Ms. M. (ed. בוני) cumin seeds.
בינתא II (ביניתא Ar. s. v. בין 2) f. (v. בינא III) thread, a single hair, (collect.) hair. Targ. Jud. XX, 16 בינת שערא. -- Sabb. 140a דראשי מב׳ from the hair of my head. Naz. 39a דב׳ עיקבא the root of the hair, דב׳ ריש׳ the top of &c. -- Yoma 69b וכ׳ ב׳ אשתמיט (Ms. M. בניתה) a hair of his beard fell out.
