(or לגדייו) the wolf is coming to get his kid; cmp. Tanh. Matt. 4 המצודה לו פרשו לצאן בא שהזאב עד while the wolf goes for the sheep, spread ye the snare for him.
גדידה f. (גדד I Hithpa.) 1) incision in the flesh, wounding. Kidd. 35b לג׳ (אף) אלא אינו או perhaps the exemption of females (intimated by בנים Deut. XIV, 1) refers (also) to the law forbidding incisions? Ib. שריטה היא אחת וג׳ s'ritah and g'didah are legally the same. Macc. 21a בכלי וג׳ ביד שריטה s'ritah is donewith the hand (nails), g'didah with an instrument. -- 2) cutting dates, v. גדירה.

גדיל m. (גדל) growing, esp. one entering on puberty. Tosef. Mikkv. VI, 10, v. כשות. - Pl. גדילים, v. גדל I.
גדיל m. (b. h.; גדל II) 1) pl. גדילים, גדילין twisted threads, fringes, v. ציצית. Men. 39b; Yeb. 5b שנים גדיל, ארבעה ג׳ gadil (a twist) means at least two threads, g'dilim means four threads (which doubled make eight). Sifre Num. 11b; a. e. -- 2) twist, table-cloth. B. Bath. 57b וכ׳ גלוי .. ג׳ שלישי שני Ar. a. Ms. O. (ed. גלאי) two thirds of the width of the table covered and one third un- covered for putting on dishes and vegetables.
*גדול m. ch. (גדל) liberal, heaped measure, opp. מחיק. Y. Pes. IV, end, 31c (Esth. R. to I, 4 גדיש).
גדילא ch. =h. גדיל. Men. 39b top מיגדיל וג׳ and the fringe is twisted (without leaving loose threads). Pl. fem. גדילן, v. גדילתא.
גדילה I f. (גדל I) growth. ג׳ דרך the way a thing grows, in natural position. Nidd. 67a גדילתה דרך in her natural position (not pressing limbs together). Succ. 45b גדילתן דרך as the plants grow (not upside down); a. e.
גדילה II f.=גדיל 1). Sifre Num. 115 יוצא ג׳ שתהא וכ׳ the twisted fringe must start from the border, and the loose fringes out of the twist; Yalk. ib. 750.
גדילו f. (גדל) plaiting, wreathing. Targ. O. Ex. XXVIII, 14; a. e. (h. text עבת).

גדיר m. (b. h. גדר; גדר) fence, guard, precaution against trespassing the aw. Y. Dem. I, 21d גדירה מפני, גדירו מפני in order to guard it against transgressing. Gen. R. s. 79 וכ׳ של גדידן פרצת (גדרן) thou hast broken down the guard (enactment) which the scholars have erected; a. fr.
