R. s. 11; a. e. the subordinate divine messengers. -- Naz. 66b וכ׳ מתגרין גוליירים the common soldiers begin the battle and the heroes (veteran soldiers) wind up with victory; Ber. 53b גוליירין (Var. גליורין, corr. acc.).

גולל m. (גלל, cmp. גל) the stone placed on top of a burial cave, top-stone, contrad. to דופק. Ohol. II, 4; a. fr. -- הג׳ סתימת the closing of the tomb with the golel. Snh. 47b; Sabb. 152b הג׳ שיסתם עד. -- Erub. 15b; Succ. 23a cannot be used לקבר ג׳ for closing up a grave, i. e. if put on top, it is not considered a golel in levitical law, v. Hull. 72a.
גוללא ch. same. Targ. Job. XIV, 22; a. e.
גולם m. (b. h. גלם, גלם) a rolled up, shapeless mass, whence 1) lump, a shapeless or lifeless substance. Y. Nidd. III, 50d and the other limbs of the embryo look מצומתים ג׳ כמין like a lump, squeezed together. Gen. R. s. 14 ג׳ העמידו He made him stand, a large, lifeless mass. Ib. s. 24 וכ׳ בראו ׳ He formed him into a huge body, which extended from one end &c. Ib. (ref. to Ps. CXXXIX, 16) עיניך שראו ג׳ (read גולמים) the embryos which Thy eyes have seen, have all 'been recorded (preordained) &c. ; Pesik. R. s. 23; a. fr. - Ib. s. 33 היו גלומי (read גלומין or גולמין) they were (hard) lumps (blocks). - 2) unfinished matter, a vessel iwanting finishing, opp. פשוט plain surface, forming no receptacle. Snh. 22b וכ׳ ואינה היא ג׳ אשה woman (unmarried) is an unfinished vessel, and she makes a covenant with (cares for) none but him who made her a vessel. -- Pl. גולמים, גל׳, constr. גולמי. Kel. XII, 6 כלי ג׳ מתכות unfinished metal vessels, v. defin. Hull. 25a; Tosef. Kel. B. Mets. II, 10. - Ib. VII, 12 גלמין (ed. Zuck. גלמי) pmumpkins in their natural shape, opp. to ומנוקבין חתוכין. -- Sifre Num. 158 גלומים ולא כלים (Yalk. ib. 786 גולמין) 'vessels' which means finished vessels but not half-finish- ed. -- Trnsf. uneducated, unrefined. Ab. V, 7. -- 3) body. Pl. as above. Sifre Num. 131; Yalk. ib. 771 the spear entered ג׳ בשני both bodies.
גולמא ch. same; 1) unfinished vessel. - 2) Pl. גולמיא, גולמי. Targ. Y. Num. XXXI, 22 (after Sifre Num. 158, v. preced.). - Sabb. 52b בגלמי; 123a בגולמי it treats of un- finished (needles). - 2) (cmp. גויל) stone. Pl. גולמין. Targ. Esth. IX, 5 ג׳ קטילת (for b. h. הרגג) death by stoning. -- Snh. 95a [read] ונירגמינה (דטינא) גולמא . . . לי אייתו bring ye unto me, each of you a stone (lump of clay), and we shall stone it (overthrow the city with mere stones); cmp. Yalk. Is. 284; Ar. s. v. גולמהרג. - 3) hill, v. גלימא II.

גולמי m., גולמית f=like a גולם, roughly shaped. Pl. גולמוות. Ex. R. s. 30, v. גלם.
גולמיש m. (גלם, with formative יש-; cmp. עכביש) [hard, stone-like, v. גולמא,] golamish, a species of cedar. R. Hash. 23a, (explain. אדרא); Snh. 108b (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 1).
גולמיש, גלמשא ch. same. Targ. Y. Num. XIX, 6 (h. text אר). - Pl..גלמשין. Targ. Cant. V, 15 (h. text ארזים).

גולפא m. (גלף) stone pitcher, jug. Yoma 12a it is usage to leave in the inn ומשכא ג׳ the (empty) wine pitcher and the hide (of the slaughtered animal). Ned. 49b וכ׳ ג׳ שקיל would carry a pitcher (on which to sit during the lectures) on his shoulder. -- Pl. גולפיא, גולפי. B. Bath. 71a the house ג׳ מאה דמחזיק which has room for one hundred jugs (placed in rows). Ab. Zar. 32a חיורי בג׳ in unglazed jugs. Hag. 25b אג׳ למיטרח to provide jugs (for the harvest). [גולפין, Targ. גולתא f. (גול, גלל; cmp. גלימא) [wrapper,] a long woolen cloak of state used at prayers. Sabb. 77b (playful etymology) ותיב גלי ג׳ Ar. a. Rashi, roll it up and sit down (Ms. ). ואייתי גלי ravel abroad and import it, ed. ואתיב גלי uncover thyself and put it down). Y. Kil. IX, end, 32d to wrap up money וכ׳ גולתה גו in one's cloak and tie it up with linen cords. Y. Taan. III, 66d top עצור וכ׳ גולתך save thy cloak from the rain (a sneer at an un- efficacious prayer for rain). Ib. IV, 67c גולתי לי יחב את וכ׳ give me my cloak that we may pray at the time of closing the gates (sunset). B.
