גונדריתא f. (נ ,גדר inserted; cmp. preced. art.) balustrade, ledge. Kidd. 70a וכ׳ דג׳ פורתא (Ar. by cler. error זנא . . . .) I am only making a little bit of a bal- ustrade (a word considered too affected in place of b. h. מעקה, Talmudic מחיצה).

גוס I (cmp. גאה) to swell, be bold (gen. with לב). Keth. 12a בה גס לבו שיהא כדי in order that he may become bold towards her (become intimate). Ib. 28a שאין בה גם לבו for he is not intimate enough with her (not having been married to her). Sot. I, 6 בהן גס לבו she is too proud towards them (their appearance may only harden her heart). Gitt.VII, 4 בשפחתה גס לבה she is too proud towards her handmaid (so that her presence has no restraining influence). Ab. IV, 7 בהוראה לבו הגס he who gives decisions in haughtiness. גוס II to come in contact, touch, be connected. Denom. גייס; גיס. [Ckts. II, 6 שיגוס, v. נגס.] Hif. הגיס to stir (with a ladle &c.). Makhsh. V, 11 בקדרה מגיסה she stirs the pot. Ab. Zar. 38b top ומגיסה and may stir it. -- Sabb. 67b אפרוחים בפני המגיס (missing in Ms.) who stirs a dish before chickens (a superstitious practice). Meil. 17a, a. e. Pi. גייס, v. s. v. גייס.
גוס ch. same 1) to come in contact, meet. Pes. 110b וכ׳ ביה גס an Arab met him. Gitt. 65b בה גאיס מיגס (Ar. גייס) he may meet him. -- Adj. גייס, גיס familiar, v. גיס. -- 2) to recline, dine, v. גסס.
*גוסי m. (גסה) nauseousness, indigestion. SifraB'har Par. 3, ch. IV (ref. to Lev. XXV, 19) ג׳ ולא אוכל eating (with gratification), but not to produce indigestion. [Prob. to be read גוסה ולא אוכל, v. גסה.]

גוסס m., גוססת f. (Pol. of גוז=גוס, Syr. גוס P. Sm. 686) rapidly passing away, sinking, dying. Ohol. גוע (b. h.; cmp. כוץ, קוץ) 1) [to shrink,] fail, fall away. Gen. R. s. 31 (explain. יגוע, Gen. VI, 17) יצמוק (Yalk. Gen. 55 ינמוק), v. צמק. Ib. s. 12 גזעה; s. 19 גרעה, read; וכ׳ גועה his stature was reduced. --2) (act. v.) to diminish. Tanh. Noah 7; ed. Bub. 10 גועו והן וכ׳ אותן and they (the wild beasts) diminished their numbers, as it says (Gen. VII, 21) and there were diminish- ed &c.
גוף I, perf. a. part. גף (גפף) [to join body to body,] to squeeze, cork, bung. Nidd. 6b וכ׳ גפה היתה was corking (pitching) wine jugs. M.
