*גידוד m. (גדד) full of incisions, wrinkled, [or acrid(a), v. גד I]. Y. Dem. II, beg. 22b הוא ג׳; v., however, גדורא.
גידוד, גדוד m. (גדד) a steep or straight embank- ment. Erub. 93b (Ms. M. גידור, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 10); Gitt. 15b וכ׳ ומחיצה חמשה ג׳ an earth embankment of five cubits and on it a partition wall of five.
גידודא, גדודא ch. same. Pl. גידודין, גידודי. דTarg. Is. XXXVIII, 12 בי׳ נחל ed. Lag. (Rashi גדודאין) a wady between steep embankments (Var. גרדאין נול, h. text lארג). -- Sabb. 41a גי׳ ליה לית (Ms. M. גד׳) has no steep banks. Erub. 6a גי׳ דאיכא where there are yet embank- ments (remnants of ruined buildings). - ג׳ בית soil full of cuts, rough places. Targ. Is. XL, 4 (h. text רכסים). - Trnsf. snares. Targ. Ps. גידודה, v. גדורא.
גידול I גדול m. (גדל) 1) rearing of children. Snh. 19b בנים ג׳ צער the trouble of rearing children; Gen. R. s. 20; Erub. 100b. -- 2) growth. Ber. VI, 3 וכ׳ גדולו שאין דבר (Y. ed. גידוליו pl.) whatever does not grow out of the soil (animal food &c.); a. fr. -- Pl. גידולין, constr. גידולי. Y. ib. V, 9c top גידוליהן דרך the way they grow, v. גדילה. -- Ned. VII, 6 ובגדוליהן (ובגיד) בחלופיהן אסור it is forbidden to eat or enjoy what has been exchanged for the fruits or what has grown of their seeds. Ib. ג׳ גידולי growths of the second degree. Y. Ter. *גידונין m. pl. (v. גידודא) valleys, ravines. Targ. Is. XXI, 14 למיא ג׳ פוקו ed. Lag. (v. notes p. XXIX, 21) come forth, ye ravines, to receive the waters (ed. Buxt. a. oth. נגדין). [Our w. prob. a corrupt. of גידודין.]
גידוע m. (גדע) 1) felling. Y. Ab. Zar. IV, 44a (ref. to Deut. VII, 5). -- Pl. גידועין, constr. גידועי. Bab. ib. 45b ע״א ׳ the execution of the laws concerning the destruction of objects used for idolatry. -- 2) that which grows out of a stump; cmp. גזע. Ib. וכ׳ אסור שגידועו the fresh growth of which is forbidden while the root is permitted; 48a.
גידוף, גדוף m. (b. h. pl.; גדף) blasphemy, reviling. Gitt. 56b; a. e. -- Pl. גידופין, גד׳. Y. Ter. I 40d ג׳ תפלתו his prayer is blasphemy. Ex. R. s. 41, beg..; a. e.
