גנח (v. גוהא) to groan, esp. 1) (with or without מלבו) to sigh heavily under an attack of angina pectoris. Tem. 15b; B. KKam. 80a; Tosef. ib. VIII, 6; Keth. 60c. -- 2) to cough and spit blood. Gen. R. s. 32, end דם ׳; Tanh. Noah 9 דם וכוהה ג׳, v. כחח.
גנח I ch. same, to groan, rumble (of the underground thunder at earthquakes). Ber. 59a גוהא ג׳ (Ms. M. גנא, Ms. O. גנה), v. גוהא. PPaua. גנח same, esp. to utter disconnected sounds (stac- cato), opp. to יליל to utter a trembling plaintive sound (tremolo). R. Hash. 34a.
*גנח II to cut. pass swiftly. Targ. Ps. VIII, 9 Ar. (ed. חליף, h. text עובר). Pa. גנח to castrate. B. Mets. 90b top they take them stealthily יתהון ומגנחין (Ms. M. וגזזין, v. נזז; v. Rabb. D. גני, גנה (cmp. גנן) to cover, be covered. Pi. גינה, גגה to overshadow, to obscure, to put to shame. to censure. Snh. 92b וכ׳ החמה את מגנין היו obscured the sun with their beauty. Gitt. 58a וכ׳ הפ את מג׳ היו they outshone the finest gold with their beauty. Snh. l. c. וכ׳ לגנות ביקש he wonld have attempted to excel all the praises &c. -- Sabb. 33b שגי׳ who criticised (the Roman government); a. fr. -- Part. pass. מגונה deserving to be covered up, reprehensible, indecent; ugly. Pes. 3a מג׳ דבר an ugly expression e. g. טמא in place of טהור לא. Ber. 33b מג׳ זה הרי he is to be reprehended; ib. 45b, opp. משובח; a. fr. Hithpa. התגנה to make one's self reprehensible, to be- come repulsive. Hag. 15b וכ׳ בה למתגנין ומה if such regard is paid to those who abuse the knowledge of the Law &c., opp. משתבחין. גני, גנא ch. same, to be shaded, to lie down, sleep. Targ. Job XL, 21. Targ. Y. Deut. XXIV, 13. Targ. II Esth. I, 4 מיגני to recline for meals, to dine; a. fr. -- Gitt. 68a וגנא and fell asleep. Sabb. 65a did not allow his daughters הדדי גבי גניאן (Ms. M. דגניין) to sleep together. Ib. 129a וכ׳ וניגני let him lie in the sun. Yoma 78b וליגני and let him sleep (in his sandals). Snh. 109b גני אפוריא lie down on the bed. Y. Taan. I, end, 64b כותלא ביה דגנאי a wall of a room in which people sleep; ib. IV, 64d bot. דגניי. - B. Bath. 58a גני Ar. (ed. גאני) is lying. גניבה, גנבה f. (b. h.; גנב) theft, the stolen object; deception. B. Kam. X, 3 בעיר ג׳ שם לו ויצא and the report of his being robbed had spread in town. Ib. 8 did not know בגניבתו that it had been stolen. Y. Sot. III, end, 19b אחת ג׳ one theft; Kidd. 18a. גנינים, גנונים m. pl. (contr. of גוונונ׳, v. גוון) of many colors. Nidd. III, 324b) גנו׳ מלא שפיר (an abortion consisting of) a bag full of a many -colored substance; (Ar. גני׳- for which in Gem. ib. גוונים; inicorr. opin. ה גבנונים lumps of a feshy substance, v. Ar. s. v.); Bekh. VIII, 1 גנו׳ (Talm. ed. 47b גני׳); Kerith. I 5 גנו׳ (Talm. ed. 7b גני׳). -- Esp. a sort of flour containing all shades of colors. Tanh. T'savveh 13 גני׳ סאה (ed.
