גשם (b. h., v. גוש) to make the earth cloddy (v. Ges. H. Iict. b s. v.). -- Part. pass. גשום cloddy in consequence of ample rains. Y. Yoma V, 42c top שחונה גשומה שנת וכ׳ (sub. ארן) a year in which the earth forms clods, then is parched so as to form scabs, and then moistened with dew; Bab. ib. 53b ג׳ שנת שחונה שנת Ms. M. גשם I m. (b. h.; preced.) heavy, continuous rain. Taan. 3b ה׳ מוריד אמר לא if he failed to insert in the second benediction (v. גבורה) ho sendeth rain'. -- Pl. גשמים. Taan. גשם II, גשמא m. ch. (גשם, v. גושמא) body, self. Dan. IV, 30. - Pl גשמיא. Lam. R. to I, 5 גשמיהון יהבין לא (Koh. R. to VII, 11 גרמיהו) tthey will not devote themselves to warfare.
גשמה (גשמא) f. (v. preced., cmp. גשיש) frame. door-sfop against which the door shuts. Erub. 101a (ex- plain. 'a widowed dood') ג׳ לה דלית (Ms. M. בשמא, a clerical error for כשמא, oth. Var. גשאמא, כשאמא, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note; גישתמא, reduplic. of גשם, cmp. גזוזטרא, v. Ar. ed. Koh. s. v. גשם) which does not shut against a. frame.

גשר m. (preced.) bridge, ferry. Erub. 55b; Tosef. ib. VI (V), 4 וכ׳ והג׳ הקבר graves and bridges (in the outskirts of towns) which have a place of shelter. --Gen. R. s. 76, end וכ׳ כג׳ עצמו עשה Jacob constituted himself a ferry, taking persons from one shore and setting them down on the other (Mat. K. כגשר like a ferry-man). -- Pl. נשרים, גשרין. Erub. V, 1. Yoma V, 42c וכ׳ מגשש היה entered groping &c. Pilp. גשגש (cmp. קשקש, כשכש) to beat, ring. Lev. R. s. 8 (ref. to Jud. XIII, 25, cmp. פעמן) רוהק התחיל וכ׳ לגשגש the holy spirit began to ring in Samson. גת II f., with suffix גת־, גית־ (contr. of גנת) a marked- of space. Tosef. Ohol. XV, 7 the court of a burying place' לתוכה . . . הגת זו (R. S. to Ohol. XV, 8, ed.
