דבק m. (b. h.; preced.) 1) glue, paste. Y. Meg. I, 71d top, v. דבק. Sabb. VIII, 4, v. שבשבת. -- 2) junction. Hull. 50a הד׳ מקום the place where the entrails adhere to the hip. -- Pl. דבקים followers. Yalk. Deut. 824 ודבקיכם אתם ye and your followers. -- 3) nexus, cause. Pl. as above; constr. דבקי, דיב׳. -- מיתה ד׳ duties the neglect of which is the cause of premature death. דבר (b. h.) to join, arrange, lead (the flock); v. next w. Pi. דבר, דיבר (b. h.) to converse, speak. Ber. 31b, a. fr. ב׳׳א כלשון תורה דברה the Torah speaks according to the language of men, i. e. uses metaphors and phrases adapted to human understanding. Sot. 12b וכ׳ לדבר שעתיד des- tined to speak to Divinity. Ter. I, 2 מדבר . . . . שדברו הרש wherever the scholars use the word heresh, they mean one who neither hears nor talks. Mekh. Bo 7, end, a. fr. ב־ אלא מדבר אינו או or does perhaps the text speak only of -- ? [ברמד as a noun, v. s. v.]. Nif. נדבר to hold communion, converse. Mekh. Bo, introd. וכ׳ עמו נ׳ לא the Lord dil not. hold communion with him outside the capital of Egypt. Ib. fr. Hithpa. הדבר, same, esp. part. f. מדברת being on terms of intimacy with a man. Keth. Ib. בתוך מד׳ לכשהיא וכ׳ ביתה when her neighbors can hear her voice in moments of intimacy with her husband. Pif. הדביר to make submissive, persuade, v. דיבור. Macc. 11a לחוד ידבר לחוד דבר the Piel dibber has one meaning (speaking harshly), and the Hif. yadber another.

דבר m. (b. h.; preced.) 1) word, utterance, command (cmp. דיבור). I. Bath. 56b (ref. to Deut. XIX, 15) ולא ד ד׳ חצי n statement (testimony) but. not. a partial state- ment. Mekh. Bo, introd. לאהרן הד׳ היה (Tanh. ib. 5 דבור) the word of the Lord came to &c.; a. fr -- תורה דבר accord- ing to the Biblical law. Erub. 81; a. fr. -- Pl. דברים, constr. דברי. תורה ד׳ Biblical laws; סופרים ד׳ Rabbinical laws. Ib. Yeb.
