דק II, דק, דוק m. (b. h.) a veiled or withered spot in the eye, cataract. Sifra Emor ch. II,Par. 3 הדוק זה דק the Biblical dak is what is now called dok. Bekh. 38b שחור דוק a black spot, לבן ד׳ a white spot. -- Pl. דוקין. Gitt. 56a; Ab. Zar. 51a שכעין ד׳; a. e. -- V. דוקא II.
דקדוק, דיק׳ m. (דקדק) 1) crushing, humiliation, sufering. -- Pl דקדוקים. Erub. 41b עניות דקדוקי the suffer- ings of poverty. -- 2) nicety, fine point, subtility, detail, minuteness; [in later Hebr.; grammarl. Ab. ch. VI ד׳ חברים the fine points discussed among scholars. Snh. 99a זה מד׳ חון except this single point (in the adopted inter- pretation of the Law). Bekh. 30b. -- Y. Ber. דקדוקא, דיק׳ ch. same. - Pl. דקדוקין. Targ. Cant. v, 1.
דקדק (Pilp. of דוק or דקק) 1) to crush, grind; v. Nitthpa. -- Part. pass. מדוקדק broken, humiliated, aflicted. Ex. R. s. 31 בעניות מדו׳ afflicted with poverty. Gen. R. s. 100 מדו׳ עני a very poor man. -- 2) to even a woof by beating. Tosef. Sabb. VIII (IX), 2; Sabb. 75b; 97b (v. Rashi a. l.). --3) to examine minutely, search, investigate (charity cases); to trace genealogical records (corresp. to בדק); in gen. to be very strict in religious observances; (with עם) to deal strictly with (esp. used of divine retri- bution). Y. Peah VIII, 21a וכ׳ בכסות מדקדקין you must make inquiries if one asks for clothes, but you must not &c., if food is asked for; Lev. R. s. 34 (B. Bath. 9a בודקין). - Y. Kidd. דקדק ch. same, 1) to crush, humiliate, v. דעדק. Lev. R. s. 27, v. גיי. - 2) to investigate; to be sdrict. Targ. Job IX, 17 (cmp. Yeb. 121b in preced. w.)-Lam. R. to I, 22 (ref. to עולל, ib.) עלי דדקדקתא מה עליהון דקדק be as strict in punishing them as thou hast been in punish- ing me. Ithpa. איוקדק to be crushed, powdered, broken. Targ. Mic. דקדקירא c. (דקדק, with format. ר; cmp. סמוקרי &c.) very thin, light. Y. M. Kat. II, 81b top [read] ד׳ דזיפתה for its pitch coating is very light, opp. גלידא.
