דת=דאת. Y. Snh. X, 27d bot., a. fr. מר דת כמה (=כמה דתימר) as thou sayest, . e. as we read in Scriptures &c. -- Y. Ab. Zar. II, 42a top וכ׳ מר דת הדא (interch. with אמר דאת דתימא=הדא הדא) that which thou sayest (hast recited), applies only &c. -- Y. Snh. X, 29d top דעתך על מר דת according to thy opinion who sayest; a. fr.
דת f. (b. h. =דנת, fem. form of דין, Arab. din corresp. to our w.) 1) custom, laaaw; jagment, punishment. Esth. R. to I, 8 וכ׳ מקום כל כדדת in accordance with the usages of &c. -- Keth. VII, 6 משה דת Mosaic (ritual) law, יהודית ד׳ Jewish custom (chastity, decency); Tosef. ib. VII, 6 ד׳ וישראל משה. Ib. 7 הדת על שעברו who disregard the Jewish custom. Esth. R. to I, 15 כדתjust dealing, v. אכזריות. Meg. 12a תורה של ד׳ the Biblical dues (sacrifices); a. fr. -- 2)religion. Succ. 56b דתה המירה (Tosef. ib. IV, 28 נשתמדה)
ה IIe, the fifth letter of the Alphabet. - It inter- changes dialectically with א as דה a. דא, הידיין a. אידין, הגדה a. אגדה &c.; with ה as דהך a. דחך, נהה a. גחה &c.; with ו as בהית a. בוש, רהט a. רו &c. -- ה a formative prefix of verbal nouns, e. g. הספד, הולכה &c.

ה־, ה (b. h.) an interrogative prefix. Targ. O. Gen. IV, 9; a. e. - Vith לא, הלא ch. (=b. h. הלא) is t noth, behold, indeed. Targ. Gen. IV, 7; a. fr.

ה״א, ה״י He, name of the fifth letter of the Alphabet. Y. Maas. Sh. V, 56a דרשי רבנין מתמנעין לא לחי״ת הא בין (not דרב׳) the rabbis do not hesitate to draw analogies between words written with le and those with Heth (as hillulim and hillulim); Y. Peah VII, 20b bot. Y. Meg. I, 71c bot. וכ׳ ה״א לכתוב צריך you must write the He of ladidonay (Deut. XXXII, 6) o that it extend below the foot of the Lammed. Y. Sabb. VII, 9b bot. וכ׳ תמניא הא He may count for eight, as the rabbis do not hesitate &c., v. Supra. -- Men. 37a בה״ד (כתיב) מידכה כהה (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) it is derived from yad'khah (Ex. XIII, 16) with a le, which intimates (כהה יד) the weak (left) hand; a. fr. -- Pl. הי״הין. Y. Ber. II, 4d bot. חיתין ה׳ עושין they pronounce He like Heth. Sabb. 103b.
הא I f. (demonstr. pronoun) this. Yoma 26a הא וכ׳ והא שכיחא the one is a frequent (daily) performance, but the other is rare. Ber. 2a קמ״ל והא and this he in- she changed her faith, became an apostate. Yeb. 70b; Pes. 96a (ref. to Ex. XII, 43, v. דרשא) וכ׳ דת המרת בו to eat of tf (the passover lamb) apostasy does unfit, but &c. -- Pl. דתין. Koh. R. to VII, 19 (play on ידותון, I chr.
