הזכרה f. (זכר; v. אזכרה) 1) giving a debtor notice in order tto prevent loss of right by limitation. Keth. 104a בה׳ שלא גובה has a right to collect (after the lapse of twenty ive years) even if he has given no notice. -- 2) Hagkarah (=גשמים הזכרת), the insertion of a reference to rain iin the second section of the Prayer of Benedictions, v. גבורה, contrad. to שאלה. הזמה f. (זמם) the refutation of witnesses by proving an alibi, contrad. to הכחשה counterevidence; the con- viction of false witnesses (Deut. XIX, 19). B. Mets. 4a ה׳ בתורת subject to the law of hdzamah. Keth. 20a ה׳ בפניהן שלא evidence of an alibi taken in the absence of the witnesses concerned. Macc. 2a ה׳ דין the punishment for evidence disproved by an alibi (retaliation); a. e.
הזמנא m. (זמן) summons. Kidd. 70a פיתקא (פיסקא) דה׳ (Ar. דזמינותא דיסקא) a document containing a sum- mons (to appear before court).
הזמנה f. (זמן) preparation, designation of an object for a certain purpose. Snh. 47b, a. e. מילתא ה׳ designation is a reality, i. e. the designation of an object for a certain (sacred) purpose is equal to its having been used. Bets. 26b ה׳ designation ior use on the coming Holy Day; a. e.

*הזר (Pers. hazar, v. Perles Et. St. p. 16) a thousand. Snh. 98a (speaking to the Persian king) ה׳ כאר לך אית גונא Ar. hast thou (Khar hazar gunah, Persian) an ass of a thousand colors? החלט m. (חלט II) final decision, esp. ascertained condition of leprosy after the probationary days of con- finement (הסגר, v. Lev. XIII). Y. M. Kat. III, 82c bot. לה׳ עבד הוא הכא here (in Miriam's case) the confinement was ordered for a definite case of leprosy, opp. להסגר for probation; ib. ה׳ ימי the seven days of Miriam's leprosy (Num. הטבה f. (טוב) 1) doing good, esp. a vow to benefit one's self (or others). opp. הרעה self-abnegation (or harm to others). Shebu. IIb 5 ה׳ או הרעה בהן שיש דברים vows in which a self-abnegation or an enloyment is implied. Ib. 27a וכ׳ רשות ה׳ מה as well as the vow of enjoyment refers to something religiously indifferent, so &c. Ib. אחרים הטבת a vow comprising a beneft to others; a. fr. --- 2)(v. Ex. XXX, 7) preparing. trimming. Yoma 14b; ib. 33a; a. fr. -- Lev. R. s. 32; Cant. R. to I, 4, a. e. (ref. to היטיבו, Deut. XVIII, 17) הנרות כהטבת ה׳ a well considered word (which has its effect) like well-trimmed lights; הקטורת כה׳ like the well-prepared frank-incense.
הטבלה f. (טבל I) immersion of vessels for evitical purification. Bets. 18a, v. השקה; a. e.
הטוי m. (נטה Hif.) inclination, sliding. Bets. 9b ה׳ וכ׳ סולם the question about moving a ladder by sliding from one window to another.
הטולים (חטו), עטולין m. pl. (cine of) Batal or Atul, a place mentioned as producing the most pref- erable wine for libation. Men. VIII, 6 ה׳ (Talm. ed. 86b ע׳ (Ms. M. עלוטיים, v. Rabb. D. S. a l., note; Ar. ח׳).
הטח m. (טוח I) plaster. Tosef. Ohol. VII, 4 יכול אם וכ׳ הטחן if the plaster on them is thick enough to stand by ilself.
הטחה f. (טוח II) 1) throwing (a stone &c.). Y. B. Kam. III, 3c top הטיח ה׳ כדרך אם if one hit (him who was carrying a fask) in the way of throwing a stone (not merely by letting a stone lie in the road). -- 2) con- tusion. Y. Sabb. VI, 8c bot. בלבד זו ה׳ . . . דומה it seems that l am not to carry off from this place anything ex- cept this contusion (of my finger).

הטייה, הטייה f. (נטה) 1) being inclined, i. e. giving a verdict according to the majoritty of voes (Ex. XXIII, 2 להטות רבים אחרי) Snb. I, 6 וכ׳ כהטייתך לא thy verdict against the defendant must not be given in the same way as thy verdict of acquittal; for the latter suffices a majority of one, for the former there must be a majority of two. -- 2) perversion of justice (Ex. XXIII, 6). Sot. 47b משפט הטיית. -- 3) (euphem.) performing coition with a virgin without causing a bleeding. Keth. 6b.

הטליס, הוטלס m. (טלל, v. אטליז) bazaar, shcp. public place (cmp. חנות). Gen. R. s. 19; s. 20 I shall die ה׳ לך יושב ואתה (some ed. הטלים, corr. acc.), and thou wilt sit in public places (with none o care for) - Pl. הטליסין, הוט׳. Ib. s. 37 ה׳ מעמידין היו (some ed. סון . . ., corr. acc.) they arranged bazaars (with entertainments) where they would exchange their wives. l Ib. s. 79 (ref. to ויהן, Gen. XXXIII, 18; cmp. חנות) וכ׳ ה׳ מעמיד התחיל he was the first to put up bazzaars and sell cheap.
