the use of the stem עבר (Ex. XIII, 12, a. Lev. XXVII, 32); (Zeb. 9a, a. e. עברה). -- 4) (from Num. VIII, 7, VI, 5, a. e.) שיער העברת passing the razor over the hair, shaving. Naz. 58b, sq. ש׳ ה׳ removing the hair of the body. Y. ib. II, end, 52b ש׳ לה׳ for the purpose of removing the hair, opp. שיער גידול.
העדאה f. 1) (עוד, Hif.) testimony, deposition. B. Mets. 3aV עדים העדאת evidence through witnesses; a. e. 2) (יעד) warning given to the owner of a mischievous animal (Ex. העלאה, העלייה f. (כלה Ho.) 1) (f. Lev. XIX. 19) throwing over one's shoulders, wrapping, opp. to לבישה putting on of a dress. Yeb. 4b. Yoma 69a. -- 2) bringing up, offering on the altar, placing on the table. Pesik. R. s. 16, end אחת ה׳ כדי sufficient for one offering; Tanh. Ki Thissa 10. העלם c. (Inf. Nif. of עלם) being unknown, esp. (with ref. to Lev. IV tto V) unconsciousness, forgetfulness as the cause of a transgression. העמדה f. (עמד) placing, being placcd, appcarance. B. Kam. 34a, a. e. בדין ה׳ כשעת according to the con- dition of the animal at the time of appearance in court. Bekh. 32b, a. e. והערכה ה׳ בעי must be placed (before the priest)and appraised (Lev. XXVII, 11). lIb. וכ׳ ה׳ בכלל subject to the law requiring placing &c. Yoma 41b אה׳ קאי does it refer to the placing of the sacrifice (to יהעמידו, Mish. ib.)-- Y. Maas. III, 54c top והערכה ה׳ (interchang- ing with עמדה).
העניק, הענק m. (Inf. Hif ofענק, with ref. to Deut. XV, 14) the outfitting of the emancipated slave. Kidd. 17b לה׳ (and also tto thy handmaid shalt thou do likewise', Deut. XV, 17) refers to the outfit (not to the marking of the ear); Y. ib. I, 59c bot.; Sifre Deut. 122.
העראה, v. הערייה.
הערב m. (Inf. Hif. of ערב) שמש ה׳ sunset, required for the unclean person, after purification, to be entirely clean (Lev. XI, 27; a. fr.). Yoma 6a הש׳ ה׳ בעי והא does he not require the sunset to pass before he may officiate?; a. fr. הניררא f. (denom. of ערב) ) going home in the e ר. evening from labor (=הכנסה), opp. to השכמה. Y. B. Mets. VII, beg. 11b [read:] משל וה׳ בעה״ב משל השכמה שתהא פועלין that the time needed for going out &c., v. הוצאה 4). Ib. הערמה f. (ערם) trickery, legal evasion, improper means to avoid a religious duty. Y. Peah V, 19b bot.; Y. Ned. IV, end, 38d לה׳ חשו לא the Rabbis did not ap- prehend an evasion. Ib.
