זונה f. (b. h.; זנה) [degenerate, degraded,] 1) (in mar- riage law) one unfit to marry a priest (v. זהם). Yeb. VI, 5 וכ׳ האמורה ז׳ שהיא for that (אילונית) is the zonah mmeant in the Law (Lev. XXI, , as one not married for propagation). Ib. וכ׳ אלא ז׳ אין a zonah (unfit to marry a priest) is none but a proselyte, a freed-woman and one who has had connection in forbidden grades of relation- ship. Ib. 61b, a. e. ז׳ עשאה . . . פנוי if an unmarried man has had connection with an unmarried woman without the intention of marriage, he has made her a גonah (for priesthood). Ib. כשמה ז׳ ז׳ the Biblical zonah means what the name indicates (a faithless wife); ib. מופקרת ז׳ gonah means a prostitute; a. fr. -- 2) harlot. Ber. 23a. Hag. 15a (in Chald. diction) ז׳ אשכח he met a prostitute. Snh. 82a; a. fr. - Pl. זונות. Ab. Zar. 17b, a. e. זז של קובה (RRoman) house of prostitution. Snh. 95b; a. fr.
זוני f. (~~~~) belt; cuirass, armour (v. Sm. Ant. s. v.). Num. R. s. 4 end בזינו מתניו חגור (corr. acc.) he had a. belt around his loins. Y'lamd. Vaethh., quot. in Ar. התיר שלו ז׳ untied his belt (removed from office). -- Pl. זונס (.oי~~, accus. pl.), זונאיות, ונין. Lev. R. s. 13, beg. התיר שלהן זונין (Ar. s. v. זנס; זונס) untied their belts (made them weak). Cant. R. to IV, 4 [read] זינו אוסרו ואחחד זונס אמר . . . הונא ר׳ זינו מהו and one angel girded him with his armour (outfit). What is meant by &c. ? . . . zonas (belts of magistracy); Pesik. זונייא, זונין m. pl. ch. =next w. Gen. R. s. 28, end ז׳ מפקא .. . . . . זרעין היו they sowed seeds and the earth produced rye-grass. lIb. וכ׳ ז׳ אילין that rye-grass is a. growth dating from the generation of the flood.
זונין I m. pl. (of זונה; זנה) [degenerate wheat,] a wweed groaiwing among wheat, darnel or rye-grass (Lolium perenne, v. Low Pf. p. 133). Kil.I, 1. Y. ib. 26d חטין מין וכ׳ they (zonin) are a kind of wheat, only that fruits degenerate, v. זנה. Tosef. Ter. VI, 10 שבה ז׳ (Var. זוגין) the darnel in it; Y. ib. V, end, 43d טנופת ז׳ (strike out ט׳ as a gloss).

זונרא m. (~~~~~~) belt. Targ. Prov. XXXI, 24 (ed. Wil. זונארא). -- Y. Snh. X, 29a top hast thou any claim on us וכ׳ ז׳ הדין אלא except this belt and this cloak (in- signia of office)- Pl. ונרין. Y. Sabb. VI, 8b bot. (expl. חריטים, Is. III, 22) מציירין ז׳ girdles embroidered with figures.

זוסמא m. (~~~~~~~=-~~~~, in he sense of ~~~~~~~~) cook's apron. Num. R. s. 4, end וזוסטא מקורעים לובש (corr. acc.) puts on ragged garments and an apron. Y. Meg. I, 71b top וכ׳ זוסטה ההן (corr. acc.) an apron whose meshes are wide &c.; Y. Ned. IV, beg. 38c זוסטה אהן (corr. acc.).

זוע (b. h.) 1) to drip, v. Hif. - 2) to move, shake, tremble. Pesik. R. s. 26 עלי זעו איברי (read with Yalk. Jer. 262; קרבי) my bowels within me trembled. Hif. הזיע, הגיע 1) to perspire, drip. Zeb. 18b (ref. to ביזע, Ez. XLIV, 18) שמזיעין במקום on that part of the body where one perspires. Toh. IX, 1; Meil. 21a משיזיעו Ar. (ed. משיזועו) from the time the olives begin to drip, v. מעטן. Sifra B'huck., Par. 2, ch. V מזיעיס השמים the heavens perspire (vapors, rain); מזיע הנחושת (read מזיעה) bronze sweats. Gen. R. s. 20 (ref. to Gen. III, 19) פניו הזיעו his face began to drip (tears, v. Pes. I18a); a. e. --2) to move. Tosef. Shebi. III, 4 מזיעתן מחרישה, v. זעזע. Koh. R. to I, 13, v. זו I. -- 3) to be agitated. Cant. R. to IV, 4 אפשר וכ׳ ה׳ שלא is it possible that the sensual desire was not. at all agitated?
זוע ch. same to move, tremble; hesitate. Targ. O. a. Y. II Ex. XX, 15. Targ. O. ib. XIII, 17 (h. text ינחם); a. fr. -- Ab.
