זיקא I ch. same. 1) shooting star, or comet. Y. Ber. IX, 13c. - Pl. זיקין, זיקי. Targ. Y. Ex. XX, 2, sq. -- 2) blastt, wind, draught (spirit). Targ. Y. Lev. XVI, 22 ז רוח. Targ. Job IV, 15; a. e. -- Ab. Zar. 28b מז׳ ויזדהר and let him beware of exposing his ear to a draught. -- Ber. 41b ז׳ תמרי dates blown down by the wind. Ned. 28b איכא נפישא ז׳ a strong wind is blowing (threatening to mow down the standing crop). Esth. R. to I, 12 וכ׳ ז׳ פח blow a blast into his belly (arouse his anger). Taan. 24a נשב ז׳ (not נשא) a wind arose (gathering clouds); ib. 25b; B. Mefs. 85b; a. e. -- Sabb. 129a ז׳ דכריך היכא in a room where the air is turned around, i. e. in a draught. -- Gen. זיקא II c. (v. preced.) [sprinkler,; hose, skin for wine, water &c. (Syr. זוקתא uter). Targ. Ps. XXXIII, 7 (h. text נד); a. e. -- tGen. R. s. 500, v. preced. Ab. Zar. 60a בין ז׳ וכ׳ מליא a tied up wine skin whether entirely filled &c. Y. ib. V, 45a top וכ׳ בז׳ דנגד אהן if one drags a skin (to take possession) and it bursts; Y. Kidd. זיקה f. (זקק; cmp. בילה fr. בלל) [tie, chain,] 1) ob- ligation, duty. Y. Ter. VI, end, 44b וכ׳ תרומה זיקת the obligation to pay T'rumah and tithes. Y. Maasr. II, 50a top וכ׳ לז׳ בא לא it has not yet come under the obligation of tithes. Treat. S'mah. ch. XIII עליו שמירתו ז׳ the duty of watching the corpse rests upon him. alk. Gen. 15 1I עומדין הן לזיקא חוץ (corr. acc.) they are not pledged. -- 2) legal restriction. Snh. 50b הבעל זיקת marital ties, betrothal. -- Esp. zikah, the interdependence of a childless widow and her late husband's brothers, the levirate relation. Yeb. 17b, a. fr. ז׳ יש the relation between a woman and her eventual yabam is a real connection, i. e. carries with it all legal consequences as regards the laws of incest and the right of interference with her vows, ז׳ אין the levirate relation is no marital connection as long as the levirate marriage is not consummated. זיקתא f. (collect. noun; denom. of זיקא I) sharp- shooter. B. Mets. 94a לן פסיקא ז׳ וכך כך Ms. M. (ed. זוקתא; Ar. בהדן איכא ז׳ וכאן כאן) so many sharp-shooters are assigned to us for our protection. [זדקתא goad, v. זקת.]

זיר, זיר m. (b. h. זר; זור) 1) crown, wreath, rim. Yoma 72b t ומשהו) מאי what purpose serves the 'some- thing' (over ten handbreadths)? It is the space for the rim. Ib. וכ׳ זיר וקרי זר כתיב it is written (in the Bible) זר (which allows the reading זד) and is read עer; if you are worthy, the Loaw is to you a crown, &c., v. זור; a. fr. -- Pl. זירין. Ib. ז׳ שלשה three crowns (of vessels of the sanct- uary). -- 2) crest, customary addition to dry mcasure; v. גירומין. Sifra K'dosh. Par. 3, ch. VIII in m'surah' (Loev. XIX, 35) הגדול ז׳ זו that means the large crest. -- 3) (bot.) capsuule of seeds, seet-pot. -- Pl. as above. Maasr. IV, 5; Ab.
