חומטון m. (חמט, cmp. חמץ, to be salty, bitter, v. Fl. to Levy Talm. Dict. II, p. 205b) humton, a sandy soil containing salty substances and used for the preservation of wheat. חומס, סובני ח׳ m. (a corruption of ~~~~~~) a halfsige sabanum, linen cloth. Gitt. 59a (sent to Rabbi) וכ׳ סובני וח׳ סובני Ar. (ed. וח׳ סיבני only) a full-size saba- num and a halt-size, which were compressed to the respective sizes of a nut and half a nut.

חומץ m. (b. h. חמץ; חמץ) vinegar. Pes. III, 1 ח׳ האדומי Edomite (Roman) vinegar (wine fermented with barley). Ib. 42b (when the wine of Judea could only be soured by an admixture of barley) סתם ח׳ אותו קורין היו וכ׳ they called it plain vingar, and now . . . they call it Edomite (Roman, Cesarean) vinegar (to distinguish it from pure vine vinegar).
