חלקא, חיל׳ f. (preced.) 1) same, lot, field. Targ. rrov. XXiII, 10. - Pl. חלקתא. Targ. Mic. II, 4 חלקתהון (Var. חלקתהוון, ed. Lag. חקלתהון; h. text שדינו). - 2) share, portion, helka, a market term for a certain portion of meat; cmp. אוזיא. Bets. 29a.

חלקא m. (cmp. חלוק) [shirt,] husk. - Pl. חלקיא. MI. Kat. 13b חלקייהו דשקל (Rashiדשקיל) its husks are taken off; (Ms. M. חילקייהו דשוי he made its parts even, divided the grain into two); v. חילקא II.

חלקתא, v. חלקא.
חלש (b. h.) 1) to relax, be weak, prostrated (cmp. חלה). - V. חלש. -- 2) [o round, smoothen, denom. תלש smooth stone; (cmp. חלק) ballot; fr. which חלש] to cast a lot; to assign. Pesik. Zakh., p. 22a expl. ויחלש, (Ex. X VIII, 13) גורלות עליהן הפיל he (Joshua) cast lots over them (for their destruction). Arakh. IX, 4 (31b) שיהא ללשכה . . חולש (Mish. ed. בלשכה) that he might assign his redeeming money to the Temple fund (deposit it there, to assert his privilege of redemption).
חלש, paa. חליש ch. same, 1) to be weak, get sick. Targ. Is. II, 9. Targ. Lam. V, 17; a. e. - Pes. 50a; B. Bath. 10b,. v. נגד. -- R. Hash. 17a; a. r. -- Yoma 18a דעתיה חלשא he might feel discouraged. -- 2) to pass away. R. Hash. l. c. עלמא ליה דחליש חזייה (Yalk. Mic. 559 . . דחלש חזא) he saw that his world (life) was passing away (he was sink- ing rapidly). - 3) to be smooth and fne. Hull. 48a סכינא פומיה דח׳ a knife whose edge is very fine. -- *4) to untie, undress. Gen. R. s. 22 חלוש אמר דין Ar. ed. Koh. (ed., a. Yalk. ib. 38 חלוץ) the one (Abel) said, Take thy clothes off. Ib. s. 75 פורפירא ח׳ Ar. (ed. שלח) he took off the purple cloak. Pa. חליש 1) to weaken, reduce. Targ. Job XII, 21 Me. (ed. מחליש, מחלש Af.). - 2) to smoothen, polish, forgc (armour). Ab. Zar. 16a וכ׳ דחלשי משום (Ms. M. דחשלי;( v. infra) because they forge of them their polished armour. Af. אחליש 1) to weaken, v. supra. -- 2) to cut with a sharp and smooth eddge, opp. to בזע tto tear with a notched knife. Hull. 17b (RRashi quoting Ab. Zar. l. c. דחשלי, a. חלש m. (v. חלש, cmp. חלק) lo, ballot. Pesik. Zakh.. p. 22a (ref. to ויחלש, Ex. XIII, 13) וכ׳ לקה בח׳ Amalek was smitten by ballot (v. חלש). Ib. נקראו שמות ארבעה וכ׳ ח׳ לגורל tthe lot has four names, Helesh, piir &c.; Yalk. Ex. 265. -- Pl. חלשים, חלשין. Ib. (quotation) וכאשר המנות על ח׳ יטילו; Sabb. XXIII, 2 (48b) וכ׳ ח׳ מטילין lots may be cast for shares of sacred meat &c. Ib. 149b וכ׳ ח׳ דהאי משמע מאי what evidence is there that hdl- shim means lot? (Answ. ref. to Is. XIV, 12).

חלש m. (b. h.; חלש) weak. Sabb. 77b וכ׳ ח׳ אימת the fear with which the weak inspires the strong person. -- Ex. R. s. 24; Sifre Deut. 309; a. e. -- Pl. חלשים, חלשין. Ex. R. l. c.

חלשות, חלשותא f. (preced.) weakness, laxity. Targ. I Kings XII, 10. Targ. Koh. X, 17; a. e.
חלתא f. ch.=h. חלה; esp. the priest's portion. Targ. Num. XV, 20. -- Erub. 83a עליהו שדי ח׳ אייתי he brought the priest's portion in addition to it.
חלתא f. (חלל, cmp. חילת I) a loose wicker-work used for making bee-hives, strainers, for wine presses, screens &c. Snh. 107a ח׳ תותי behind a screen (Rashi; bee-hive; Yalk. Sam. 148 כילתא). Ib. לח׳ פתקה it (the arrow) made an opening in the screen. Sabb. 35a כורי תרי בת ח׳ a. basket containing two khor. Ib. 74b ח׳ דעבד מאן האי h- who makes a wicker-work on the Sabbath (going through the whole process of cutting reeds &c.). -- Pl. חלאתא, חלתא. Ab. Zar. 75a וכ׳ דיקולי חלתא Ms. M. (ed. וחלא׳ דקולי, Ar. incorr. דדיק׳ ח׳) the palm or reed strainers which are twined with ropes of palm-rind.
