חרישה I f. same, ploughing. Sabb. 70a. Ex. R. s. 6; Koh. R. to VII, 7, a. e. הקבר בחרישת concerning a grave which has been ploughed over; a. fr. -- Trpsf. sexual con- uection. -- Pl. חרישות. Y. Yeb. I beg. 2b. Gen. R. s. 98.
חרישה II f. 1) (חרש II, Hif.) silence, acquiescence. Sirre Num. 153 sq. (with ref. to Num. XXX, 5; 8; 12); v. שתיקה. -- 2) (חרש II Pi.) making deaf deafen- ing. B. Kam. 86a וכ׳ לח׳ שא״א לפי (Ms. M. להחריש) be- cause it is not possible to cause deafness without affdict- ing a wound, a drop of blood &c.; ib. 98a. -- 3) deafness, v. חרישות.
חרישה III f. (v. חורש) thicket, only in קנים חרישת a thickett of reeds. Gen. R. s. 12, beg.; Koh. R. to II, 12; (Cant. R. to I, 1 וכ׳ של חורשא); v. חישה.
חרישות f. (denom. of חרש) deafness. Sifra K'dosh. Par. 4, ch. IX לו גרמה חרישותו שכן where his deafness may be the reason why we must not curse him; Snh. 66a חרישתו.

חריתא, v. חרותא.
חרך (b. h.; cmp. חרה) to roast, parch. Pi. חיר, חרך to char, burn brcad so as to make it uneatable; to prcpare a wick by charring. Pes. 21b חירכו וכ׳ קודם he charred the leavened bread before the time appointed for the removal of leavened matter. Y. Sabb. II, 5a top לן (לין) מחרכין they char them (the wicks). -- Part. pass. מחורך, fem. מחורכת, pl. מחורכין, מחורכות. Tosef. Sabb. II, 1 (v. Var. ed. Zuck.); Sabb. 29a (v. Tosaf. a. l.). חרך, חרוך, חריך ch. same, 1) (neut. verb) to be burnt, blackened. Targ. Job XXX, 30 (h. text חרה). Targ. Jer. VI, 29 חריך. Targ. Is. IX, 18 חרוכת (ed. Lag. חרובת). -- 2) (act. verb) to burn, roast. Pes. 40a וכ׳ ליתרוך לא one must notroast two ears &c. --Part. pass. חריך. B. Mets. 85a; Ber. 46a, a. e., v. חרוכא. Pa. חריך to burn, singe the hair of. Kidd. 41a מחריך רישא he himself singed the hair off the animal's head (in preparing for the Sabbath). Ab. Zar. 38a. Ithpe. אתחריך, איה׳ to be burnt &c. Targ. Y. Gen. חרך I m. (b. h. חרכים; חרך, cmp. חרק a. חרם) lattice, latticed window. Pesik. Hahod., p. 49b לח׳ חלון בין . .. כשם as there is a difference between (the light as it comes through) an open window and a latticed window, so &c..; Num. R. s. 11; Pesik. R. s. 15; Yalk. חרכא ch.=h. חרך I, 1) breaking through, breaking in. Targ. Y. Ex. XXII, 1 (h. text מחתרת). -- 2) window. Targ. I Chr. XV, 29; Targ. II Sam. VI, 16 (h. text חלון); a. e. -- Pl. חרכין, חרכיא. Targ. Y. Gen. VIII, 2. Targ. Cant. II, 9; a. e.
חרכייא m. pl. (חרך) [burnings,] harakhaya, a verbal substitute orחר, q.. Ned. 10b, Rashied. חדכים)v. חדקייא.
חרם (b. h.) [to perforate, break through (cmp. Arab. baram, a. חרך I),] 1) to make a net. Men. 37a top יוסי ר׳ החורם R. J. the net-maker (or fisher); [Rashi, reading החרום, (v. Rabb.D. S. a. l., note 100), v. infral. -- 2) to per- forate. Part. pass. חרום (b. h. חרם) one whose nose is so flattened as to show itts holes, flat-nosed. Bekh. VII, 3 וכ׳ הכוחל ח׳ איזהו a harrm is he who can paint both of his eyes with one movement. Ib. 43b שקוע שחוטמו ח׳ h. is one whose nose is sunk. -- 3) to cut off, to set outside (cmp. Arab. haram), v. infra, a. הדם. -- [i) to burn, cmp. חר, חרב; v. חורמן.] Hif. החרים (denom. ofחדם) [to set outside, apart,] 1) to dedicate for priestly or sacred use (Lev. XXVII, 28, sq.); to renounce private use. Arakh. VIII, 4 וכ׳ אדם מחרים a man may renounce a portion of his sheep &c.; ה׳ ואם מוחרמין אינן כולם את but if he renounces all of them, they are not dedicated (his vow is invalid). Ib. אם מה וכ׳ להחרים לגבוה since man is not permitted to renounce all his property even for a sacred purpose &c. Ib. 7 מח׳ וכ׳ קדשיו את אדם one may declare herem one's own de- signated offerings(inwhich casehe has to pay their value to the priest or the sanctuary); a. v. fr. -- Part. pass. מוחרם, pl. מוחרמין, מותרמיס.
