חשש ch. same, 1) to suffer. Y. M. Kat. III, 82d top ח׳ הוא פומיה he has an ailing on his mouth (and there- fore ties it up). Cant. R. to II, 16 וכ׳ ח׳ ועבד and con- tinued suffering with fever for three years; a. fr. -- 2) to be afected, troubled; to care, apprehend. Targ. Prov. XXVIII, 17 וכ׳ דחשיש he who is troubled (feels com- punction) about blood-guiltiness (h. text עשק); a. e. - Y. M. Kat. חששא m. (preced.) anxiety, fear, suspicion. Targ. Koh. II, 25. -- Yoma 83b וכ׳ ח׳ אנא דאמרי אימר (Ms. M. למיחש, v. preced.) what Isaid (that a name was an omen) was meant only as an apprehension, but I did not mean it as a certainty. Bekh. 36a לח׳ ר״מ דאמר אימר what R. M. said, was meant ns an apprehension (worth inves- tigating), but not to make one legally disqualified. Ib. ח׳ הוא it is merely a suspicion, וכ׳ ח׳ ובמקום and against such a doubt, we may argue that he had no reason to tell a falsehood. Nidd. 17b וכ׳ ח׳ בתר אי if you are guided by a doubt, opp. חזקה; a. fr.

חתומא m. (חתם) signer, witness. - Pl. חתומייא. Y. Gitt. IX, 50c bot. וכ׳ ולח׳ . . . רשו יהב (not ולחתימייא) gave permission to the scribe to write and to the wit- nesses to sign.

חתונה f. (b. h. חתנה; התן) wedding. Num. R. s. 12; a. e., v. חיתון.
חתות, חתית, v. חיתית.
חתי, חתא, (v. נחת); Hif. (החתי(א to put down, rest. Y. Yoma V, 42b bot. ויחתי . . . יחליף Iet him change hands . .. . and set (the pan) down. Ib. וכ׳ מימינו ה׳ אם if he set it down from his right towards his left side. חתי, חתא Ien. Af. אחתי same. Yoma 47a ונחתיה וכ׳ למאאתה (v. Rabb. D. חתי, חתה (b. h.) to dig, esp. to take coals out with a pan. Yoma IV, 4 וכ׳ חותה היה יום בכל every other day the priest used to take coals out in a silver pan &c. Sabb.
