זרף, Ab. Zar. 18b נזרפיה Ar. (ed. לייתיה, Var. Ar. נטרפיה, Ms. M. לתפסיה) pr b. a corrupt. for נגרביה, v. גרב.
זרף, Pa. זריף (cmp. זרב) to form a rim or elevation around a wound (cmp. כתית, ספחת), to cause a swelling and inflammation. Ab. Zar. 28b וריף מיזרף the operation with the hand creates soreness. Hull. 77a; Yeb. 76a פרזלא ז׳ מז׳ cutting with an iron tool causes infammmmation.
זרפא, זיר׳ m. (preced.) inflammation, swelling of a wound. Sabb. 67a לז׳ ליה דעבדי Ms. M. (ed. לזי׳ דעבדי) it is applied for healing an infammation &c.
זרק (b. h.; cmp. זרי) to sprinkle; to cast, throw. Keth. 103b וכ׳ זרוק, v. מרה I. Sabb. XI, 1 מרשות הזורק וכ׳ he who throws an object from private to public ground; a. fr. -- Hsp. to sprinkle blood on the altar (Lev. I, 5). Yoma III, 4 וזרקו . . קבל he received the blood and did the required sprinkling. Zeb. I, 4; a. fr. -- Yoma 67b, v. זקר. Nif. נזרק to be sprinkled. Pes. V, 3; a. fr.
זרק ch. same. Targ. O. Ex. XXIV, 6 (Y. דריק); a. fr. -- Gen. R. s. 53, end; s. 86, end [read:] נפיל . . . חוטרא זרוק throw a stick in the air and it will fall back to its origin (the ground), i. e. innate disposition will always come forth; (cmp. Tanh. Balak 17; Num. R. s. 20). Ithpe. אזדריק to be sprinkled. Targ. Num. XIX, 13; a. e. -- Pes. 78b bot. דם איז׳ כי אשתקד last year when the blood of the Passover sacrifice was sprinkled. ח Heth, eighth letter of the Alphabet. זרת f. (b. h.; preced.) span (the spread fingers); distance from the little ffnger to the thumb of a spread hand. Keih. 5b; Men. 11a ז׳ זו this one (the little finger) is used for measuring the span. Tosef. Kel. B. Mets. VI, 12 וכ׳ אמורה ז׳ ereth mentioned therein (in measures), is halt a cubit of six handbreadths; a. fr. -- Du. זרתיים, זיר׳. Men. 85a; Tosef. ib. IX, 3 ז׳ ושבולת זרת קנה the halm one span long, and the ear two; Taan. 5a ירתים.

Yithro 4Yithro isnamed חובב, וכ׳ את שח׳ because he loved the Law; Sifre Num. 78. Sabb. 13b הצרות את מחבבין היו they cherished the mem- ory of past troubles (devoting memorial days to the relief from them). Ib. 51a, a. e. זה את זה מחבבין כמה how they honor each other. Pes. 100a היית יום בכל בפני . . . מחבב thou didst always prefer my opinions to those of R. J., and now thou embracest his opinion in my presence; Y. ib. X, beg. 37b; Tosef. Ber.
