&c. -- ולטעמיך now, according to your argument (assum- ing it to be correct, -- what then?). Ber. 43a; a. v. fr. -- 4) argument on the cause of bereavement, consolation (v. טמא). M. Kat. 18a מיניה ט׳ למישאל (Ms. M.; second time, ט׳ ביה לשיולי) to get his permission to argue (with him), i. e. to console him. Snh. 113a [read] ט׳ ביה למשאל (or טמא, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 7) to console him. -טעמא־ בי, v. טנמא. -- 5) taste. Targ. Num. XI, 8; a. e. --Yoma 78b ט׳ דמיתותא a foretaste of death. Hor. 11a, v. טעם. Hull. 97a בט׳ it depends on the taste (whether a mixture be for- bidden), v. preced. טעמא m. (preced.) pleader. Pl. טעמיא. Esth. R. to I, 3 דאיה סגניא ובני ט׳ בני his young pleaders and coun- sellors. Ib. דיליה . . . בני ט׳ בני pleaders means his counsellors.
טען I (cmp. טעה) [to seek, ask, (cmp. בעא),] 1) to claim before court, to sue, to plead. Keth. XIII, 4 את הטוען וכ׳ כדי חבירו if one claims from his neighbor a certain number of jugs of oil. Ib. 108b, a. e. וכ׳ חטין טענו if one claims wheat and barley (two different things), and de- fendant admits barley. Shebu. 43a וכ׳ בדבר שיטענו עד until he sues him for something weighable or countable. Gitt. 58b וכ׳ ליורש טוענין the court pleads in behalf of the heir &c.; a. v. fr. -- Part. pass. טעון, f טעונה is reguired for, regures. Zeb. V, 7 הזייה ט׳ דמן their blood is requir- ed for sprinkling (must be sprinkled). Bicc. II, 1 טעונים וכ׳ רחיצת require washing of hands; a. v. fr. -- Denom. טען, טוען requirement, obligation, fr. which טען ט׳ to re- quire. Sifra introd. שהוא אחר ט׳ ליטעון הכלל מן ויצא וכ׳ and is specified for another requirement in keeping with the general subject. -- 2) to seek after, to sispect, v. infra. Nif. נטען 1) to be sued, to be respondent, defendant. Y. B. Kam. X, beg. 7b בב״ד להן נטענין קטנים אפי׳ even for minors defense is made in court (prob. to be read; טוענין, cmp. Gitt. 58b, quoted supra). [In later literature טוען claimmant, נטען defendant.]- 2) to be inquired after, suspected, to be summoned on suspicion. Yeb. טען, טעין ch. same, to plead. Keth. 105b בעי אי וכ׳ טעין if he chooses, he may plead thus. Gitt. 58b אי וכ׳ טעין דקא is it that he pleads (demurs) and says &c.?; a. fr.
טען II (b. h.; cmp. טעה, טעייא, a. Ges. H. Dict.a s. v. צען) [to move, make ready for travelling,] 1) (cmp. נשא) to load, pack up. Num. R. s. 6 העגלות על וטוענים and pack (them) upon wagons; a. fr. -- Part. pass. טעון (interch. with טוען) laden, carrying. Ib. s. 5 בקרשים ט׳ שהוא מי some had a share in carrying (moving) the boards. Ib. האריגה כלי כל טוענין had to carry all woven mnaterials. Ib. s. 6 וכ׳ מטועני היה was one of those carrying the ark. B. Mets. 32b אסור יין טעונה carrying forbidden wine. -- Midr. Till. to Ps. XVIII המים את טעונין . . . בשעה when the clouds are charged with water; Yalk. Sam. 160 המים מן טוענין (corr. acc.), v. השך. II, 10 מצוה לטעון . . . . the biblical law requires man to help in un- loading, but not in loading (without remuneration); אף לט׳ loading, too, must be done gratuitously, v. כעינה; a. fr.
