יכול, יכל (b. h.; יכל, cmp. כול, כלל, כלכל) 1) (adj.) m., יכולה f. capable, able to sustain, enduring; 2) (verb), impf. יוכל, to be capable, able; one can, may; it is pos- sible. Cant. R. to III, 6 י׳ איני . . יכלתי לארי I overpow- ered the lion, and I should not overpower the dog? Ib. להם יכולים ואתם . . . . לאי׳ שלכם שר your guardian angel could not stand against their father (Jacob), and (you think) you could master them? -- יכולני = אני י׳ I can. Hag. 15a top Ms. M. (ed. אני יכול); Nidd. 64b. - Keth. 95a וכ׳ לומר שי׳ מפני because he may plead &c. Ib. היא יכולה שתאמר she may plead. יכולת, יכלת f. (b. h.; indn. of יכול) power, ability. Num. R. s. 16 וכ׳ להספיק י׳ לו היה שלא מפני (not להוסיף) because he had no power to sustain him, אלא י׳ לשון אין מזונות the word י׳ refers to sustenance (ref. to מכלת, IKings V, 25, cmp. כלכל).

יכח (b. h.; v. כח) to be firm, stand, be right. - De- nom. נכח. Hif. הוכיה [to place opposite,] 1) to admonish, reprove. Ber. 31a sq. (ref. to ISam. I, 14) להוכיחו שצריך . . . מכאן from here we learn that he who sees in his neighbor something unbecoming, iis bound to admonish him;Arakh. 16b. Ib. ויוכיחנו. . . . הוכיחו if he did admonish him and he did not heed it, he must do it again. Ib. . . . תמיהני להוכיח שיודע Iwonder whether there is in this generation one who knows how to admonish; a. fr. -- 2) to prove, to serve as an analogy. B.
