כרתי m. (b. h.) gent. n. K'rethi, Cherethi; (collect.) the body-guard of David; (homilet.) the Sanhedrin (or lriam and lummim). Ber. 4a, v. כרת. Midr. Till. to Ps. III, v. כריתה; a. e. -- Pl. כרתיים. Men. 28b הכ׳ תפוחי כמין ed. (ed. Ven., a. oth., and Ar. הברתיים) the shape of the apples oftthe B'reth. m (Cretans?); ib. 63a הכ׳ Ms. R. 2 (ed. הברתים), v. בירתית.
כרתי (כרתי) m. (Hebr. denom. of Ch. כרתא, v. next w.) porraceous (of color), leek-green stuff. Ber. I, 2 לכ׳ תכלת בין (משיכיר) when one can distinguish between blue and green; (Y. ed. כרתן; Ar. Var. כרתא, כרתה). Succ. III, 6 ככ׳ הירוק (Y. ed. ככרתן) an Ethrog green like a por- raceous plant (v. כרתינון). -- Gitt. 31b דכ׳ סרבלא a cloak of green wool.
כרתי, כרתיא, כרתין m. pl. ch.=h. כרישין(v. כריש) leek. Targ. Num. XI, 5 ed. Berl. ככ׳ (oth. ed. כ׳; Yarg.]Y. II כרתיא, some ed. כרתיא; h. text הציר). - Ab. Zar. 10b שדר כ׳ ליה he (the emperor) sent him leek (symbolically al- luding to כרת, my progeny will be cut off, Rashi). Ker. 6a; Hor. 12a. Y. Kil. Succ. III, 53a (ref. to Mish. ככרתן ירוק, v. כרתי) כרתינין להן דדמי או כ׳ כהן (corr. acc.) does the Mishnah mean exactly as green as leek, or any shade like leek?

כשות f. (cmp. כישא) 1) tuft, pubescence, fine hairs or fibres. Ckts. II, 1. Mikv. IX, 4 קטן של כ׳ the downy hair growth of a youth before puberty; Tosef. ib. VI, 10 של כ׳ וכ׳ גדיל quot. by R. S. to Mikv. l. c. (ed. כתות) the hair growth of one entering on puberty, about which he cares not. --Esp. (also masc. sub. שער) cuscuta, a parasite grow- ing on shrubs (v.Lcw Pf. p. 230, sq.). Tosef. Kil. I, 11 (Var. קשות), v. היזמא. Ib. III, 16 וכ׳ אינ כ׳ ed. Zuck. (oth. ed. אין); Sabb. 139a Ms. M. (ed. כישות), v. כלאים. - 2) (collect. noun, sub. מיני) cucumbers or melons in an early stage when they are pubescent. Ib. 109a רפואה משום בהם אין כ׳ pubescent cucumbers or melons are not considered me- dicinal (in Sabbath law). Ib. וכ׳ שרו כ׳ מיני כל (Ms. O. כישות, Ar. s. v. טר קישות or קישות q. v.) all kinds of downy plants are permitted (on the Sabbath as not med- icinal), except t'ruza, v. טרוזא.
כשות, כשותא ch. same, esp. cuscuta. Erub. 28b כ׳ וכ׳ רבי קא מארעא נמי cuscuta, too, draws its nourishment from the ground, for behold, as soon as you cut the shrub, the cuscuta on it dies. Sabb. 107b וכ׳ כ׳ דתלש מאן האי he who tears c. loose from the shrubs &c. Sabb. 139a בכרמא כ׳ עירבובא cuscuta in a vineyard is a forbidden mixture (v. כלאים). Ib. 109b bot. וכ׳ כ׳ אוכליה ordered him to eat c. with salt and to run &c. Gitt. 69a, v. חומרתא. -- Hull. 47b ככ׳ דדמיא looking like c. (yellowish). -- V. כשרתא.
