Ib. קמייהו מכתיפנא לא מי should I not carry things in and out for their reception? -- Esp. to carry a person (in a chair) on shoulders, v. אלנקי. Yoma 87a; Snh. 7b. Bets. 25bלהו מכתפי הו (v. Rabb. D. כתף m. (preced.) carrier, porter. Tosef. Ber. II, 7. Kel. XXVI, 5 הכ׳ עור the hide which the porter uses to protect his clothes. Y. Kidd. II, beg. 62a הכ׳ ע״י on the testimony of the carrier (that delivered the goods);a. e. -- Pl. כתפים, כתפין. Y. M. Kat. III, 82b bot.; Y. Ber.III, 6a top לכ׳ נמסר when the corpse has been given over to the pall-bearers. Y. Shebi. VIII, 38b [read ] בשביעית העושין וכל הכ׳ החמרין וכ׳ שכרן the drivers and porters and all employees in the Sabbatical year take their wages in fruits of that year (v. Tosef. ib. כתף m. (b. h.; v. כתף) 1) joint, shoulder. Shebi. III, 9 וכ׳ באין כ׳ אבני heavy stones may be taken in the Sab- batical year from any place (their size showing their designation for building purposes); הכ׳ על . . נטלות שהן כל those which are carried, two or three at a time, on the shoulder. B. Mets. 68b; Tosef ib. V, 6 להעלות שנהגו מקוס למעות כ׳ שכרwhere it is customary to add a remuneration for carriage to the money (to be paid to the partner on settling). Gen. R. s. 56 (ref. to Gen. XXII, 6) שהוא כזה כתפו על. . טוען like him (the culprit) who carries his cross on his shoulders; a. fr. -- 2) grapes on an arm of a vine which branches off into twigs, contrad. to טף grapes hang- ing down from the trunk. כתפי m. (sub לשון) Coptic language (?). Snh. 4b; Zeb. 37b; Men. 34b (Ar. s. v. טט, some ed. גדפי, cmp. ניסטי).

כתר (b. h.) to knot, tie, join closely. - Denom. כתר, כותרת. Hif. הכתיר (denom. of כתר) to tie a wreath, to ofer a crown. Lev. R. s. 24וכ להקב״ה מכתירין העליונים the angels wreathe three 'holies to the Lord (Is. VI, 3); Yalk. ib. 603 וכ׳ לפני מכתירים העליונים; Yalk. Is. 272 מכתירין מה״׳ש קדושות ג׳. --Erub. 53b (in enigmatic speech) במבתיר נתייעץ he took counsel with the crown -maker (him who ordains the scholars, the Nasi). ---[Tanh.KiThissa 6 שהכתיר, read; שהבחיר, as Pesik. Shek., p. 15b.]-- Part. pass. מוכתר adorn- ed, distinguished. Meg. 12b (in being called Jהehudi, Esth. II, 5) (כעדי) היה בנימוסו מ׳ מרדכי (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 300) Mordecai was intended to be described as adorned with his faith (as with an ornament), i. e. Jehudi is meant not as a gentile noun but as an epithet of religious de- votion (than whom no better Jew was found).

כתר m. (b. h.; preced.) garland, crown. Hull. 60b the Moon said אחד בכ׳ . . אפשר is it possible for two kings to use the same crown (to occupy an equal rank)? Ex. R. s. I פרעה כתרו של Pharaoh's crown. Sabb. 104a (play on letters ל כ) לעורת״ב כ׳ לד וקושזר and he will wreathe a crown for thee in the world to come; a. fr. -- Pl. כתרים. Ab. IV, 13 גביהין על, . הן כ׳ שלשה there are three crowns, the crown of the Law (learning) .c. , but the crown of a good name rises above all of them. כתש (b. h.; v. כתת) 1) to crush (olives), to pound, beat Shebi. IV, 9 וככ וסך כותש he may crush olives and use the oil for ointment in the field. Sabb. 74a נמי וליחשוב כותש let the Mishnah (VII, 2) count (among the forbidden labors) also pounding (grain), vv. כתישה. Men.VIII, 4(86a). Tanh. Huck. 8; Pesik.
