מאמר m. (b. h.; אמר) 1) command, order. Ab. V, 1 וכ׳ אחד במ׳ והלא could not the universe have been created by one divine command?- Meg. 21b; R. Hash. 32a בראשית הוא מ׳ נמי the first verse of Genesis is also to be consider- ed a command. Gen. R. s. 4 במ׳ תלוים. . המים the upper waters are suspended (in the air) by a divine ordain- ment; Taan. 10a. -- Sabb. 63a כמאמרה מצוה העושה who executes a divine command as it has been ordained; a. e. -- Pl. מאמרות. מאן, Pi. מיאן, מאן (b. h.; v. אין) to deny, refuse, esp. I) (of a woman betrothed in childhood, on arriving at majority) to protest against, to annul one's marriage. Yob. XIII, 1 ארוסות אלא ממאנין אין only betrothed (not married) women may have their obligation cancelled. Ib. וכ׳ קטנה והדא ממאנת she may protest (have her marriage cancelled) even while yet a minor, and even four or five times in succession. Ib. 2 למאן שצריכה. . . איזו what minor is bound to make declaration (before eaving herhusband)? -- Ib. 4 וכ׳ באיש הממאנת if a woman refuses her husband by declaration, he is permitted to marry her kindred (who otherwise would be forbidden to him); a. v. fr. - 2) to adumise a protest.
