מזג (מזגג) pr. n. JHt'zag (tizgag), eponymous hero of a tribe answering to AMaices, Maeyes (Maxyes) in Northern Africa (v. Sm. Greek a. Roman Geogr. s. v. Mauretania). Targ. Y. Gen. X, 7; Targ. I Chr. I, 9 (ed. Lag. מזגג); ib. 32 (h. text דדן).
מזג m. (b. h.; זגג, cmp. ממר fr. מרר) [clearing, refin- ing; fr. which מזג to clear (dark) wine by dilution &c..] 1) micture. Sifra Vayikra, N'dab., Par. 5, ch. VII במ׳ לא not in a mixture of water and wine. Nidd. II, 7 (19a) וכמ׳ Y. a. Bab. ed. (Mish. כמזוג), v. מזג. Y. ib. II, 50b top וכמ׳ מבחוין נראה מזוג . . . אבא (not וכמזגי) 'and like mixed wine', says Abba , like a cup filled with mixed wine, seen from without (through the glass). Bab. ib. 20a חון ממ׳ except the discharge which has the color of a mix- ture of one third wine &c.; a. e. -- 2) temperament, dis- position. Gen. R. s. 28 רע . . . . מזגו (not רעה) the king's disposition is bad (he is illiberal).
מזגא I, מיז׳, מזיגא ch. same, mixed wine, drink. Targ. Prov. XXIII, 30מ בית drinkinghouse(h.textממס). - Ned. 55a וכ׳ דמי מי׳ הדין this prepared wine tastes like that prepared by &c.; Erub. 54a וכ׳ מזיגא האי דמי. B. מזגא II pr. n. pl. Mazga. Gen. R. s.34, end; Yalk. Gen. 61 מ׳ מן . . הן מן where are you from? Said they, fromm Mazga. Ib. וכ׳ מ׳ מן חכים אנא I am a scholar from M., and it contains no more than ttwo stands (for students).

מוה I (b. h.) = זה מה, what is this? Tanh. Shmoth 23 (ref. to Ex. IV, 2) וכ׳ מוה כתיב מזה בידך מ׳ what is this in thy hand? It may be read mieeeh, out of that which is in thy hand thou deservest punishment.
מזה II m. (נזה) the priest appointed to do the sprink- ling (Num. XIX, 21). Tosef. Par. XII (XI), 12. -- Trnsf. priiest, man of distinction. Y. Ber. IV, 7d top מ׳ שהוא ממי וכ׳ וזה מ׳ בן let him sprinkle (occupy the office) who is a sprinkler, son of a sprinkler (a scholar of scholarly an- cestry); dare he who is neither himself a sprinkler m say to him who is . . , Thy water is plain cave water, and thy ashes mere ashes from the stove (thy decisions are of no legal value)?; Y. מזוזה f. (b. h.; זוזו=זוז; cmp. זנוא) [coupling, set,] door- frame, esp. door-post. Kidd. 22b (ref. to Ex. XXI, 6) דלת וכ׳ עידי שהיו ומ׳ door and post were my witnesses in Egypb (ib. XII, 23) when I passed . . . and said, my servants are the sons of Israel and not servants of servants &c. Ib.
