מכוש, מכושא I, מכושה ch. same, hammer; knocker. Lev. R. s. 24 מ׳ ליה דהוה מאן whoever has a. hammer (or a hoe, v. next w.). Gen. R. s. 44 (ed. Wil. מכישה); Yalk. ib. 77 מכושה, v. כשש. Y. Meg. III, 73a bot., v. בכושא.
מכושא II ch. =h. מכוש I, hoe, spade. Lev. R. s. 25 וכ׳ מכושיה יטעון (Var. in Ar. פסא יסב) shall take up his spade and go out and plant trees.
מכות f. (מך) 1) poverty. B. Mets. 114a; Arakh. 17b (ref. to מך, Lev. XXVII, 8) וכ׳ במכותו שיהא עד he must have remained in his impoverished condition from the beginning to the end of the proceedings. - 2) humility. Gen. R. s. 74, end (play on מכתב, Ps. LX, 1) ותמות מכות humility (of David) and innocence; Yalk. Sam. 147 לדוד ותמות מ׳.
מכותא f. (Aesyr. makua, v. Frinkel Zeitschr. fur As- syriol. III, p. 53; Proceed. Soc. for Bibl. Archaeol. 1887, p. 103) a certain kind of boat, (ow boat ). מכחול, מכחל m. (כחל) staf used for painting the eye. Kel. XIII, 2 הכף שניטל מ׳ a painting staff the spoon- shaped side of which is broken off; Tosef. ib. B. Mets. III, 5, v. זכי. Snh. 68a בשפופרת כמ׳; Cant. R. to I, 3, v. זכרות a. חסר. B. Mets. 91a בשפופרת כמ׳ as the painting stick is inserted in the tube; Macc. 7a; a. e.
מכחלא m., מכחלתא f. ch. same. 6. Kam. 117a דכספא במ׳ ליה דלו Ar. (ed. לתא . . .) they lifted his eye- iids with a silver stick. -- Pl. מכחלי. Gitt. 69a מ׳ תלתא three staff-fuls of paint.

מכירין m. pl. (~~~~~א) knives, daggers. Tanh.Vayhi9 (play on מכרות, Gen. XLIX, 5) לחרבות שקורין הוא יוני לשון מ׳ it is Greek, in which swords are called machaerin. Gen. R. s. 99 מ׳ הוא יוני לשון; Pirke d'R. El. ch. XXXVIII מכיר לחרב קוראים שהיונים (read; מכירא). Gen. R. s. 88 וכ׳ נתנו מ׳ קונדא (combine into one word; אo~o.~tpc, V.
