me what thou art commanded to, i. e. atms, v. next w. -- Pl. מצות, מצוות. Macc. 23b מ׳ . . . מאות שש six hundred and thirteen commands (positive and prohibitive). Y. Sabb. l. c.; Y. Hall. l. c. (ref. to המצות אלה, Lev. XXVII, 34) וכ׳ מ׳ כמצוותן עשיתן אם if thou doest them as they are conmmmanded, they are deeds of merit &c. R. Hash. 28b בזמנן אלא עליהן עובר אינו מ׳ one vviolates the laww by adding to the prescribed form of ceremonies only when executed in their due season (e. g. one does not violate the law by dwelling in the Succah on the eighth day). Ib. כונה צריכות אין מ; Ber. 13a כ׳ צריכות מ׳, v. פפנה. Succ. 39a, a. e. וכ׳ מברך כולן המ׳ כל the benediction at the performance of religious ceremonies must precede the act. Nidd. 61b לע״ל בטלות מ׳ ceremonial laws find no ap- plication in the hereafter (e. g. a dead body may be wrapped in Kilayim). Ib. המ׳ מן חפשי, v. חפשי; a. v. fr. -- Ker. 17b (ref. to Lev. V, 17) קרינן מצוות the tradi- tional reading (v. אם) is acts (therefore a doubt between two pieces, one permitted and one prohibited, is required for a sacrifice (תלוי אשם). Ib. מ׳ ליכא the requirement of two pieces is not complied with.

*מצויינא m. (denom. of מצו; נצי) wrangler, hair- plucker. Sabb. 152a מ׳ קרחא (בר) ed. (Rashi מצוייאנא, Ms. M. מציא) Baldhead (wants to be) a hair-plucker , v. גוזניא.
מצולה I f. (b. h.; צלל) [precipitous declivity,] glen, shaf, flsh-pond. B. Bath. 67a ומ׳ חולסית a sand-mound (for glass-making) and a glen (shaft for metal-digging; oth. opin. fsh-pond); Arakh. 32a. Meg. 6b(missing in edi- tions revised by censors,v. Rabb. D. S. a. l.)חולסית אחד וצידו ומ׳ (Ms. M. חרסית) and on the fourth side it (Rome) is bounded by sand-hills (clay-ground) and glens (or shafts). -- Ber. 9b; Pes. 119a (דגים) דגה בה שאין כמ׳ (v. Rabb. D. מצולה II f. (גצל; cmp. ניצולת) refuse, threshed-out halnms, husks ac. Ber. 9b; Pes. 119a דגן בה שאין כמ׳ Var. lect. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. notes) like husks without grain. - Pl. מצולות. Tosef. Ter. X, 3 (Var. ed. Zuck. נניצולית), v. ניצולת.
מצולתא f. ch. = h. מצולה I depth, glen. Targ. Job XLI, 23; a. fr. -- P. מצולתא. Targ. Y. Ex. XV, 5. Targ. Ps. LXXXVIII, 7 (ed. Wil. sing).
מצוע, v. מיצוע.
מצופות f. pl. (צפח; cmp. b. h. מכורות, fr. כרה) (also used as ing.) a tube for measuring distances, a sort of telescope. Y. Erub. V, 22d top [read;] וכ׳ ומשער מ׳ מביא, v. מישר (cmp. Tosef. ib. VI (V), 13). Y. ib. IV, 21d bot. וכ׳ לו היו מ׳ (not מצודות) he had a telescope &c. (Bab. ib. 43b שפופרת), v. מישר.
מצופית f. (צפה, Pi.) overlaid mouthpiece of a musical instrument. Kel. XI, 7; Tosef. ib. B. Mets. I, 7 מציבות (corr. acc.). מצוצא m. (צוץ) chirper; דתננא מ׳ [smoke-chirper,] crioket in the chimney. Midr. Till. to Ps. CII, 4 מ׳ כהדין דת׳ (my days pass in smoke) like that cricket (ed. Bub. דיקר מציצא, read דיקיד, the cricket on the hearth, v. Bub. a. l. note 14).

IX, end, 58a (ref. to Ex. l. c. a. 18) והלא וכ׳ מריבה היא מ׳ היא are not matsuth and m'ribah the same; Y. Snh. IX, 27a bot.; Y. B. Kam. IV, 4c top. Gen. R. s. b0 (play on מצות, Gen. מצח m. (b. h.; צחח to glisten) forehead. Koh. R. to XII, 2 המ׳ וה והירח and the moon' (ib.) means the fore-- head; Lev. R. s. 18 הממ׳ זה והאור (Sabb. 15 1b פדחת זו). Yoma 7b, a. e. מצחו על עודהו as long as it (the plate) is on the high priest's forehead; a. e. -- Trnsf. efrontcry.
