מקימה f. (v. מקמא) bought object, thing. Lev. R. s. 5 לי תתנין פלנית מ׳ לך אית (not תתנון) hast thou such and such an object wilt thou lend it tto me?

מקל c. (b. h.; קלל to swing) walking stick, in gen. staf. Sabb. 66a זקנים של מ׳ old men's stick. Kel. XVII, 16; Tosef. ib. B. Mets. VII, 9 וכ׳ בית בו שיש מ׳ a.. staff which has a secret receptacle for a m'mufah (מווזה) or jewels. Ab. Zar. III, 1 מ׳ בידו שיש כל a statue holding n its hand a staf; ib. 41a כממ . עצמו את שרודה מ׳ the staff intimates symbolically that he causes himself to be chastised as with a staff in behalf of the entire world (vicarious sacrifce). Y. Dem. VII, beg. 26a [read;] מהו וכ׳ בלשי דמ׳ בחלמי דחמית (not דמיקל) what does it mean that I saw in my dream an officer's staff suspended from my body- Y. Ned. IX, beg., 41b היתה רמ של מקלו וכ׳ I. Meir's staff was in my hand, and itt taught me knowl- edge. Toh. VIII, 9 וכ׳ מלאה שהיא מ׳ a staff which has become wet with unclean fuids; Tosef. ib. IX, 15 שהיה מ׳ וכ׳ (corr. acc.); a. v. fr. - Sabb. 139a (ref. to Is. XIV, 5) וכ׳ שנעשו הדיינים אלו this alludes to judges who are a. staff (of support) to their beadles (conniving at their abuses). - Pl. מקלות. Pes. V, 9. R. Hash. I, 9 מ׳ בידם לוקחין they may take sticks with them (for defence); a. e. -- Yoma VI, 7(e7b) במ׳ קלען Y. ed. (Bab. a. Mish. במקלעות, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 6) he twisted the limbs of the animals around carrying poles.
מקלה m. (קלה II) roasting place; מ׳ אפר ashes from the roast, i. e. vegetable ashes, contrad. to אפר which in- cludes any crumbled substance. Taan. II, 1. Ib. 15b (ref. to וכ׳ אפר ונותנין, ib.) מביאין הן מ׳ אפר they must bring woodashes (not dust, crushed bones &c.). Par. IX, 7 אפר מ׳ באפר שנתערב כשר ashes fit for ustration (ashes of the red cow) which were mixed with wood-ashes. Tosef. ib. X (IX), 1 מ׳ כא׳ הן הרי tthey are as unfit for lustration as wood-ashes. מקלט m. (b. h.; קלט)refuge, esp. for the unintentional man-slayer. Macc. Il, 4. Ib. 6 מ׳ לערי מקדימין . שוגגג אחד both the innocent and the willfuil slayers go temporarily to the place of refuge; Sifre Num. 160. Macc. II, 8 רוצח מקלטו לעיר שגלה a man-slayer who arrives at his place of refuge; a. fr.
מקליעתא f. (קלע II) braid, plait. Y. Sabb. VI, 7d bot. וכ׳ דרי(שה מ׳ מזבנה הות she sold the plait of her head (hair), and gave (he proceeds) to him (Akiba), that he might study the Law; Y. Sot. IX, end, 24c דשערה קליעתא.

מקם, מקמא I m. (קום) 1) = h. מעמד, standing, at- tendance, offfce. Targ. IKings X, 5. Targ. Is. XXII, 19 ed. Dag. (ed. מקומ׳, מקומ׳). -- 2) that which is placed before the gucs, portion, plate. Esth. RR. to I, 4, v. קינדס.
מקמא II, מקמה, מקמתא f. (קום; v. יקום, cmp. Gen. XXIII, 17; 20) acguisition, bougrht o~jed, thing. Y. Ned. XI, 42c bot. טבא מ׳ לה יב דו when he allows her a. good bargain. Cant. R. to VIII, 9 מקומא למזבן to buy some goods. -- Targ. Y. Ex. XXII, 7; 10 מקמתא Ar. (ed. עיסקא; h. text מלאכת). -- Gen. מקנה m. (b. h.; קנה) property, esp. cattle. Num. R. s. 22 גדול מ׳ להם היה they had a large stock of cattle; a. e.
מקניתא, מקניתה f. (denom. of קני) a bundle of reeds. Y. Maas. Sh. IV, end, 55c מרגלתא מ׳ the bundle of reeds (seen in an alleged dream) means the bolster at the bottom of the bed.
