מרגלות f. pl. (b. h.; denom. of רגל) the bottom-part of a bedstead; (alsor adv.) at the bottom of &c. Y. Ber. III, 6d bot., v. מראשות. Yalk. Ruth 606 שוכבת . . . נשתהתה מרגלותיו (not שוככ) she tarried six hours lying at his feet.

מרגליטיס (not טוס...) m. (~~~~~~~~) margarites chersaios, name of a precious stone. Ex. R. s. 38, end (cor- resp. to ישפה, Es. XXVIII, 20).
מרגלית f. (cmp. ~~~~~~~~, ~~~~~ &c., prob. of Semitic origin, cmp. רגג, רגרג) gem, jewel, pearl, mostly pl. מרגליות. Ab. Zar. 8b וכ׳ טובה ואבן מ׳ in setting pearls and a precious stone (for an ornament), which is made the base (subordinate) to the other?-Gen. R. s. 31 (expl. צהר, Gen. VI, 16) מרגלית a polished gem; Y. מרגניתא f. (v. מרגליתא) pearl or jewel. B. Bath. 146a וכ׳ כ׳ ליה שחקו they ground for him a pearl worth &c. Kidd. 26b וכ׳ מ׳ בה תלה he set in it (the needle) a pearl (or a precious stone) worth &c. Ib. 18a בידיה מ׳ נקיט he possessed a pearl (a precious slave). Ber. 33b מ׳ לן תקינו they composed for us a precious prayer. Yeb. 94a הרה מ׳ ביה למדרש ליה R. E. had an opportunity for a most precious interpretation, opp. חספא. Ib. 92b, a. e., v. דלי; a. fr. -- Pl. מרגנייתא. R. Hash. 23a מ׳ מסקן they bring up pearls (from the bottom of the sea).
מרגשות f. pl. (רגש) noises. Lam. R. introd. (R. Joh. 1) וכ׳ מ׳ צרות.. הזה הלשון this expression (תשאות, Is. XXII, 2) serves for three meanings; distress, noises and darkness; Yalk. Is. 289 מתרגשות (corr. acc.). -[Num. R. s. 14 מרגשות some ed., v. מורגשה.]
מרד I (b. h.; denom. of מרד; cmp. מעל a. מעל) 1) to rebel, refuse obedience; to protest. Keth. V, 7 על המורדת בעלה she who rebels against her husband (refusing marital duties; oth. opin. refusing to work). Ib. אשתו על המורד a husband refusing marital duties (oth. opin. refusing to give her work and support); ib. 63b. Snh. 49a, a. fr. מורד במלכות rebel. -- Meg. 13a מרגלים בעצת מ׳ he (Caleb) pro- tested against the counsel of the spies. Ib. בגילולי מרדה וכ׳ she refused homage to the idols of her father's house; a. fr. - [Y. Maas. Sh. I, 52d top שמרד מטבע, read; מרד של or מרוד, q. v.]- 2) to incite to rebellion. Gen. R. s. 23, v. infra. Hif. המריד to make rebellious, to incite. Y. Keth. V, 30b bot. עליו המרדחה התורה the Law requires her to be rebellious against him (to refuse sexual connection). Gen. R. s. 26 עלי המרידן זה this man (Nimrod) made them rebel against me; ib. s. 23 עלי המורדן זה (Rashf'; המרידן).
מרד II (v. preced., cmp. ירד) to run, discharge matter; to be sore, infammed. Ab. Zar. 28b; Y. ib. מרד I m. (b. h.; denom. of ירד) [running away, run- ning agaiinst, cmp. מעל,] desertion, rebellion. Pes. 55b אחר למרדע שלשה after three days since her (the bird's) desert- ing the eggs; ib. למורדה. Midr. Till. to Ps. X המ בשביל וכ׳ אני שמרדתי Ibeg for amnesty for the rebellion which I made. Gen. R. s. 23; s. 26 (ref. to הוחל, החל, Gen.
