נומוס m. (~~o) law, custom. Y. R. Hash. I, 57a bot., v. אגרפוס. Lev. R. s. , end הוא וקילוסין הוא ׳ Ar. ed. Koh. (ed. קלוסים נימוס; corr. acc.) it is a law and a command. - Mostly נימוס.
נומי f. (ouו, nome, pl. nomae) corroding sore, ulcer. Ab. Zar. 10b וכ׳ ׳ לו שעלתה מי Ar. ed. Koh. (ed. נימא .. שעלה, corr. acc.) if one has an ulcer on his foot, shall he have it cut and live, or let it go and die-- Gen. R. s. 46 עלתה וכ׳ בבשרם ׳ (some ed. נמי) they have an ulcerating sore ..., and the pbysicians advice circumcision. Ib.(play on וכמלתם, Gen. XVII, 11) בגוף תעויה היא כנומי it (he prepuce) is like an eating sore hanging from the body. Sifre Deut. 45 נימי מעלה אתה הרי . ואם (corr. acc.) but if thou removest it (the plaster), thou wilt cause ulcer- ation; Kidd. 30b; a. e.

נומירון, נומירן f. (numerus, ~~~~~~. ~, 8.) a division of troops. Mekh. B'shall., s. 1 בטילה אחת ׳ שאין (not ואין) not one division (of the Roman empire) is unemployed; Yalk. Ex. 230 נומויון, נומיון (corr. acc.).

נון, נונא m. (contr. of נענע, v. letter ו; cmp. זיז =זוזו) flsh. Targ. Jon.II, 1;a. e. - Targ. Lev. XI, 17; Deut. XIV, 17 נונא שלי, v. שלינונא. -- Ned. 54b לעינים סמא ׳ עי״ן סמ״ך נו״ן the succession of the letters Nun, Samekh, Ayin serves as an intimation, fish is a remedy for the eyes'. Gen. נוני, נינה (=גענע=נונו, v. preced.; cmp. צוצי, s. v. צוץ) to be tender, delicate. Hithpalp. התנונה, Nithpa. נתנונה to become delicate, be failing, to fall away. B. Kam. 91a מתנונה והיה אמדוהו והולך (Ms. M. מתנוונה; ed. Sonc. מתנוה) if the experts declared his injuries as curable (and the court assessed the damages accordingly), but he continues to be falling away. Hull. 57b והולכת מתנוונה (Tosef. ib. III, 9 מכחשת) if the animal loses fesh, opp. משבהת. Sot. III, 5; ib. 6a מתנוונא (corr. acc.). Ib. 26a איברים דרך במתנונה when she is ailing all over the body (not suffering locally as predicted for the faithless woman, Num. V, 27); Y. ib. III, 19a bot. המתנווה.
נוני ch., Ithpalp. אתנוני same. Sot. 6a מתנוונא היא she was falling away (before witnesses arose against her).
נום (b. h.) to fee. Ex. R. s. 3 נס למה why did he flee (before the serpent)? Yalk. Ex. 237 מצרי שהיה מקום בכל וכ׳ נס withersoever an Egyptian fled, the sea ran against him; Mekh. B'shall. 6 נסים מצרים; a. fr.

נוע (b. h.) to shake, move; to be tender. Pilp. נענע, ני׳ 1) to shake; to stir up, scare. Tosef. Bets. I, 8 שינענע עד unless he stirred the bird up (the day before, by which act he made it his property and designated it for slaughtering); Y. ib. I, 60a top. כן אם אלא יום מבעוד ני׳. Succ. III, 1 בו לנענע כדי large enough to (hold it in his hand and) shake. Ib. 9 מנענעים היו והיכן and at what passages of the Hallel did they shake (the Lulab)ז Sabb. XX, 5 (14 1a)וכ׳ ינענעו לא.. הקש(Bab. a. Y. ed. ינענענו) must not stir up with his hand the straw &c.; a. fr. -- בראשש) ׳ to (shake) bow the head. Ber. 28b ראשו שנ׳ כיוון וכ׳ if he only bows his head (in prayer), it is sufficient. Yeb. 121a ראשי לו נענעתי . . . גל וכל and as each wave came, I dipped my head under (to let it pass over me). Ib. ראשו לו ינענע . . אם if wicked people come over man, let him bow his head. Pesik. R. s. 37 ומנענעים בראשיהם and shook their heads (in derision, ref. to Ps. XXII, 8). -- Yalk. Bets. 25a והמ׳ המקושרים tthe birds designated a day before the Holy Day by being tied or by being stirred up; ib. אסורין בכ׳מ והמ׳ והמקושרין birds found anywhere tted or stirred up are forbidden to be taken up (because somebody has taken possession of them); Tosef. ib. I, 10 והמנוענין(Var. והמנענין, corr. aacc.). - 2) to move in different directions, to introduce a surgicl instrument. Nidd. 25b, v. סכסך I.

נוף (b. h.) to move in the air, to soar. [Yalk. Ps. 676 נפה שהוא, read; צפה שהיא, v. צוף.] Hif. הניף 1) to swing, wave. Men. 61b ומניף. . מניח כהן the priest places his hand under those of the owner of the offfering and waves. Ib. מניפין העכ״ום אין gentiles are not permitted to wave their offerings; הנשים אאין מניפות women are not permitted &c. Ib.a ויחזור ינים וכול ויניף I might think that he must wave twice. Snh. VI, 1
