נפל, pl נפלים, v. נפיל.
נפל, ני m. (preced. wds.) 1) capacity for seed, v. נפילה. - 2) (b. h.) abortiion; premature, nott viable birth. Tosef. Chol. XVI, 13; Pes. 9a, a. e. - Y. Yeb. XI, end, 12b ׳ אינו is not considered a non-viable birth (for legal pur- poses); a. v. fr. -- Pl. נפלים. Gen. R. s. 26 (play on הנפלים, Gen. VI, 4) וכ׳ נ׳ העולם את שמלאו they filled the world with abortions by their lascivious life. Tosef. l. c.; a. fr.

נפע (cmp. פוע, פעה) to blow, squirt into the mouth. Ex. R. s. 1 (lay on פועה, Ex. I, 15) וכ׳ יין נופעת שהיתה she squirted wine into the child's mouth atter having given its mother to drink, v. גפח. Hif. הפיע to bkw air into the lungs, to revive. Ib. שהיתה וכ׳ את מפיעה (or מפיעה, fr. פוע) she revived the child when they said it was dead.
נפע (interch. with נפץ) to shake. Pa. נפע to shatter. Targ. Jer. XXIII, 29 ed. Lag. (ed. מפנע, מפגע, corr. acc.; Bxt. נפן). Hthpa. אתנפע to be shattered. Targ. II Chr. XXXIII, 13 (ed. Wil. אתכ׳, corr. acc.).

נפפיתא f. (preced. wds.) remnant of flour in the sieve. Yeb. 114b וכ׳ דנ׳ פורתא בהאי ס'ד (Ar. דנפיתא) can it be imagined that he could live on that little remnant of flour which thou hast left to him?
נפץ (b. h.; cmp. פוץ) to scatter, shake out, empty. Bicc. I, 8 וכ׳ נופן he scatters tthem on the ground, and does not read. Tosef. B. Bath. IV, 2 נופצו he shakes the bag out. Keth. 72a (the Mishnah means) ונופצת ששתמלא that she should receive (the semen) and then discharge it (by violent movements); a. e. Pi. נפן 1) same. Kil. V, 7 ינפן he must shake the grain out of the ears; Y. ib. 30a bot. Deut. R. s. 3 וינפן וכ׳ אבני and scatter the stones prepared for rebuilding the Temple. Lev. R. s. 10; s. 19 וכ׳ אין מנפצו שאתה בשעה as soon as you shake it out (of its marrow), it is good for nothing. Midr. Till. to Ps. נפץ ch. same, 1) to scatter, shake out. Targ. O. Gen. XXIV, 20 (ed. Berl. נפצת). Targ. Jud. VI, 38 ed. Lag. (ed. נפק, incorr.). -- Nidd. 31a (prov.) וכ׳ ושדי מלחא פון shake the salt of, and throw the meat to the dog (when life escapes, 2he body decays). Gen. R. s. 36 (ref. to כפצה, Gen. IX, 19) וכ׳ עוברה דנפצה .. לדגה like a large fish that scatters its roe &c.; a. e. -Snh. 67b דנפין (Rashi ןaמנפפ) he scattered, i. e. blemw his nose. - 2) to shatter, break. Targ. ud. נפצא, נפסא m. (preced.) fax-beater, carder. Yeb. 118b; Keth. 75a וכ׳ תיקרייה גברא ד׳ though the husband be a carder, hhis wife will call him out to the threshold and sit down (proud of her husband); [Ar. נפסא; a guards- man in the vegetable garden, denom. of נפוס.]
נפצא f. (preced. wds.) scattering. Nidd. 30b דנ׳ סמא וכ׳ he made them drink a scattering drug (which destroys the semen in the womb).
*נפק (cmp. פוק) to go out. Cant. R. to III, 4 (play on פצות, Is. XXI, 4) צות לדבר שנפקו ידי על because they went out for lascivious purposes.
