R. s. 10 נשרו; Koh. R. to V, 8 נשרן, נששרין, ch.). Macc. 7b קרינן ונשל, v. infra. Pi. נישל to strike of, to cause chips to fly of. Ib. ונישל כתיב vv'nashal (Deut. XIX, 5) may be read v'nishshel (Pi.) and the iron chips off a part of the wood &c., v. supra; קרינן ונשל the traditional reading is v'nashal, and the iron slips out of the helve (v. אם). Nif. נישל, נישול to fall of, decay. Lev. R. s. 37, end וכ׳ אבר אבר ממנו ׳ שהיה limb after limb fell off his body and was buried each in a different place; ib. אאבר אבר ׳; Koh. R. to X, 15; Gen. R. s. 60. Num. R. s. 9 ׳ בשרה דהא her fesh (limbs) shall fall of; a. e. Hif. השיל to lett fall, drop. Bets. נשם (b. h.; cmp. נשב) to breathe. Gen. R. s. 14 end, v. נשימה.
נטם ch. same. thpe. אתנשים, אינשם, thpa. אינשם 1) to take breath, to rest. Pesik. B'shall., p. 93a וכ׳ למנשמא את בעי wouldst thou rest a while ?- 2) to recovcr, get well. Y. Sabb. XI)V, 14d bot.; Y. Ab. Zar. II, 40a וא׳ . . לחש he whispered .a., and the person recovered, v. ישו. Lam. R. to II, 11 ואת . כחול מנשמה use my eye-paint, and thou shalt get well. Y. Kil. IX, 32b bot. אינשמת it (the tooth) was cured; Y. Keth. XII, 35a bot.; Gen. R. s. 33 אתנשימת (some ed. אתנשמית I feel better). Lev. נשם m. (cmp. נשא III) neshem, a medicine which produces depilation. Neg. X, 10 נ׳ סך נ׳ אכל if one ate n. or smeared n.; Sifra Thar., Neg., Par. 5, ch. X.
נשמא m. (נשם) breath, respiration. - Pl. נשמי. Succ. 26b; Yalk. Prov. 938 ׳ שתין sixty respirations. -- נשמא f, v. גשמתא.
נשמה f. (b. h.; preced.) breath, spirit, soul. Gen. R. s. 14, end, v. נפש. Snh. 52a, a. e. וכ׳ וגוף נ׳ שריפת burning of the breath of life while the body remains intact. Y. Gitt. VII, beg. 48c בו תלויה שהכנ׳ בחזקת under the pre- sumption that he is still alive. Y. B. Kam. VII, end, 6a דבר בו תלויה שה׳ a part of an animal's body the removal of which results in death; a. fr. -- Pl, נשמות. Y eb. 62a, a. e., v. גוף II. נשף (b. h.; cmp. נשב) to blow, breathe. Num. R. s. 20 וכ׳ לנשוף . לא וכי could not the angel have blown at him, and he (Balaam) would have given up his spirit?; Tanh. Bal. 8. Yalk. Cant. 986 בה נושף . . . והיה and a serpent blew (hissed) at it (the dove); a. e. -- עמה ׳ (or עיסה) to make the leaven siwell, to stir up passion, hatred. Esth. R. introd. (ref. to Am. V, 19) the serpent, that is Haman כנחש עמא נושף שהיה who stirred up passion like the serpent (en. III, I3); Lev. R. s. 13 כנחש עיסה שנשם (not שמשך); ib. s. I5 end כנהש ששזף (insertעמה); Gen. נשף I ch. same. Ber. 3b (expl. נשף) וכ׳ ליליא נ׳ the night blows (expires), and the day comes in; the day blows, and niight sets in (Rashi; retires), vv. נשף, שפא.. thpe. אישף to be covered with breath, to become dim. Men. 50bלה אישפה(Ar. איג׳,Var. 7אי; some ed. Ar. אינשבא) the bread loses its listening surface (when it gets stale)..
נשף II (cmp. שוף I ch.) to slip, glide, move. Meg. 3a וכ׳ מדוכתיה לינשוף Iet him move (Rashi; skip) from his place four cubits. ttaf. אינשתף to be made to slip. B. Mets. 23a מיעשתפא it slips from its place (by people's stepping against it).
נשף m. (b. h.; נשף) [zephyr,] early morning; sunset. Keth.111b ב׳ קדמתי (fr. Ps. CXIX, 147) Igot up ealy in the morning. Ber. 3b (ref, to Ps. l. c.) אורתא ׳ דהאי ממאי וכ׳ how do we know that neshef means evening? (Answ. ref. to Prov. VII, 9). Ib. וכ׳ ׳ הא הוא אורתא ו׳ does neshef mean eveningt does it not mean morning -- Lam. R. introd. (R. Joh. 2) נ׳ הרי the mountains of darkness. Lev. R. s. 23 וכ׳ בא נ׳ אימתי when will the dusk come, when the evening?; a. e.
נשפא, constr. נשף, נשף ch. same. Targ. Job III, 8. Ib. XXIV, 15 (ed. Wil. נשף). -- Pl. נשפי. Bewr. 3b ׳ תרי וכ׳ הוו there are two neshef, the night exxpires &c., v. שף.
נשק (b. h.; cmp. נשך) 1) to touch closely; to kiss. Y. Yeb. XV, 14d (ref. to נשק, Ps. CXL, 8) נושק שהקין ביום וכ׳ when the summmer kisses the autumn (at the changee of seasons, when disease is rife). Ib. נושקין עולמות ששני וכ׳ when the two worlds touch eath other (the moment of death). Gen. R. s. 90, beg. (ref. to Gen. XLI, 40) שלא וכ׳ נושקיני אדם יהא none shall kiss met(the kiss of homage) but thou. Ber. 8b, a. e. וכ׳ אלא נושקין אין כשנושקין when they (the Medians) kiss, they do so only on the hand. Yalk. Gen. 159 וכ׳ ערפו על נושקו שהוא בדבר with a thing which one puts close to one's neck, that is the bow; a. fr. -- Part. pass. נשוק (cmp. אחוז fr. אחז) kissing.
