סאסא, סאסאה m. h. a. ch. (=סעסע, cmp. סער, שער; cmp. זאזא) bristle, awn or beard of grain. Sot. 5a (Ar. ססא). Hull. 17b לס׳ דמיא (Ar. לססא) if the slaughteriing kmife is rough like a bristle of &c. -- Pl. סאססין, constr. סאסי. Koh. R. to IX, 11 וכ׳ שיבולין ס׳ על רן שהיה (not שיבוליא; some ed. שאסי) he ran over the ears of standing grain, and they were not broken.

סאתא I, סאתה f. ch. =h. סא, S'ah measure. Targ. Is. XXVII, 8. Targ. Job XX, 22; a. e. - Y. Ter. X, 47b top וכ׳ עבדא ס׳ במה how mmuch does a S'ah contain? Twenty four Log. Lev. R. s. 36; Y. Snh. סאתא II f.=סחותא, sweepings, refuse. Lam. R. to I, 15 (expl. סלה, ib.) וכ׳ ס׳ עבדי (some ed. סאתי pl.) he made me like refuse before them. Ib. סרקי לס׳ צווחין גמזא בבר (read סלותא; Ar. סולתא לסחותא . . בברגיא) in Bar Gamza. they call sweepings sallutha (that which is thrown away); v. סחיתא.

סב, סבא I, סאבא m. ch. (v. סאב II, סיב)=h. שב. grey, old; elder; ancestor; scholar (shh. זקן). Targ. Is. III, 2. Targ. Gen. XXIV, 2; a. fr. -Targ. Y. II Lev. XXII, 27 סביא. - Targ. II Esth. סבא II 1) pr. n. m. Saba. Y. Yeb. IX, beg. 10a בר ניחא ס׳; Y. Kil. IX, beg. 31a סבה. - 2) ס׳ כפר pr. n. pl. K'ar Saba, in Samaria. Y. Dem. II, 22c bot. (ed. Krot. כפרסבא, one word). Nidd. 61a; Tosef. ib. VIII, 5 (v. Hildesh. Beitr.,. p. 10).
סבא III (b. h.; cmp. שבע) to drink freely. - Part. pass. סבוא, pl. סבואים, סבואין soaked, satiated. Nidd. 24b ס׳ עצמותיו Ar. (ed. סכויין) his bones are found satiated with moisture, i. e. porots, contrad. to משוחין oily, smooth.
סבא ch. same. Part. סבי. Targ. O. Deut. XXI, 20. - [Targ. ISam. XXX, 20 וסבא some ed., read ובא.]. Pa. גי to retail wine in the shop or tavern. B. Bath. 98a לסבוייה אדעתא with the intention to retail it. Af. אססבא to satiate, soak; trnsf. (cmp. ספג) to lash. Keth. 10a כופרי אסבוהו make him absorb (strike him with) palm switches. Ib. וכ׳ ליה ומסבינן and we lash him nevertheless.
סבב (b. h.) to go around, turn. Num. R. s. 18 כשהייתי וכ׳ כל וסוכב והולך . . when I travelled ... and went around all the towns; וכ׳ מעיר והולך סובב הייתי I went around from town to town. Erub. 56a בלילה צפוון אל וסובב 'and turns northward (Koh. I, 6) by night; a. e. Nif. נסב to take a turn. Num. R. s. 4למעלה ורחבה ונסבה it turned upward and became wider. Pi. סיבב 1) to surround. Erub. l. c.; B. Bath. 25b (ref. to Koh. l. c.) מהלכתן ופעמים משבבתן פעמים (Rashi סוכבתן, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 4) at seasons the sun goes around them (making a circuitous route), and at seasons it passes straight through (from north-east to south-west). Ernb. 23b; Num. R. s. 13 סב tie around; a. e. -- Trnsf. to be around a person, to waitt upon. Deut. R. s. I (play on סב ההר את, Deut.
