סותה f. (homilet. etymology fr. יסת) being misled, error. Tanh. Vayhi 10 (ref. to סותה, Gen. XLIX, 11) אין וכ׳ טעות אלא ס׳ (not סותו) suthah means error, as we read יסיתד כי (Deut. XIII, 7); when an error in law is com- mitted, it shall be washed clean in his (Judah's) borders (by the Sanhedrin); cmp. Gen. R. s. 9s, quot. s. v. חור.

סחורה f. h. (b. h.) same, traffic; goods. Pesik. R. s. 10 (play on סהר, Cant. VII, 3) היו והשכר הס׳ . . . בשעה בעולם when they (the Sanhedrin) were in session, there were traffic and profit in the worrld. Ab. II, 5 המרבה כל לא מחכים בס׳ not every one that has a large trade obtains wisdom. B. Mets. III, 2 וכ׳ ס׳ עושה הלה כיצד how (can this be)? Shall this man traffic with his neighbor's cow ?
