סינדיקנוס m. (a corrupt. of ~~~~~~, 8.) god- father, he who holds the male infant on his knees for circumcision. Midr. Till. to Ps. XXXV, end, ed. Bub. (missing in oth. eds.) וכ׳ ס׳ נעשה אני בברכיי with my kknees (I praise God) --when I am made the godfather of children that are circumcised on my knees; Yalk. Ps. 723 סינדיקוס עושה אני (some ed. סנדיקות, corr. acc.). -- [In ritual literature the godfather is called סנדק, sandak, and his function סנדקאות.]
סינודיא f. (~0o~iא) travelling company, escort. Y'lamd. to Num. III, 40, quot. in Ar. נעשינו ומלאכי אני שלך ס׳ (Ar. ed. Koh. סינוריא; Tanh., ed. Bub., B'midb. 22 עליך נצבים, Var. in Mss. סנהיגוריא, סנגוריא, corrupt. of our w.; Yalk. Is, 316 פמליא) I and my angels were thy escort.

סיני pr. n. (b. h.) ס׳ (הר) Mount Sinai. Sabb. 89a, v. סימנאי. Shebu. 47a (expl. למקומה השבועה חזרה, ib. VII, 4) לס׳ , , חזדה tthe oath (which ought to have been ad- ministered to one of the contestants) goes back to Sinai, i. e. the case is referred to Divine Justice that proclaimed from Sinai, thou shalt not rob', on which all Israelites are sworn. Ib. 22b, a. fr. הוא ס׳ מהר ועומד מושבע does he not stand sworn (not to eat it) from Mount Sinai? Macc. 22a הוא ס׳ מהר ועומד מושבע . . . חלה קא לא the oath (not to plough on the Holy Day) takes no effect, because he stands sworn &c. Ab. I, 1מס׳ תורה קבל משה Moses received the Law from Sinai (by revelation); a. v. fr. - למשה הלכה מס׳, v. הלכה. -- Sot. 21a ס׳ כי. . דרשיה R. M. interpreted that verse (Cant. Kam. 82a Egra ordained בס׳ חוגרת אשה שתהא that woman must wearr a sinnar (as a matter of chastity); Y. Meg. IV, 75a. Y. Sot. I, 16c bot. הס׳ התרת לאחר after untying the sinnar (for immoral purposes).
