*עוכבניין m. (v. עכבית) a dish of thistles (Cynara Syriaca), the eating of which generates an evil smell of the body (v. Low Pd. p. 292, quot. fr. Dioscorides). Lam. R. tto IV, 9 ע׳ מריח מתים היו they died from the smell of the thistles (which they ate during the siege).
עוכלא m. (עכל, cmp. אובלא II a. כלה) Ukhla, a small measure of capacity (also a wefght). B. Bath. 89b. Ib. 90a ברובע משמונה אחד ע׳ היא וכמה (ed. בדביע מחמשה, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. to 89b note 400) and how much is an llkhla ? One-eighth (fifth) of a fourth of a Kab. Sot. 8b; Tosef. ib. III, 1 (missing in ed. Zuck.; Y. ib. I, 17a אוכלא); Num. R. s. 9. עול (nterch. with עלל) 1) to come, come in. Perf. על, עאל; part. על, עאיל, עאל, עיל. Targ. O. Ex. VIi, 28 על; Targ. Y. עאל (ed. Amst. אעל). Targ. Y. ib. XXXIII, 9 עאיל (ed. Amst. אעיל). Targ. O. Gen. XXIII, 10 עאלי (ed. Berl. aa. oth. עלי; Y. עלי). Targ. Prov. XVII, 10 עאלא ed. Lag. (oth. ed. עלא); a. fr. - Y. Kidd. II, 63a top סומכוס דחק ועאל S. pressed on and went in. עול m. (b. h. על; עלל) yoke; also pole of a wagon. Kil. II, 6 השרוני הע׳ מלא the width of the yoke (the team) used in the plain of Sharon. Kel. XIV, 4 מתכות של הע׳ a metal pole (v. Maim. a. l.); ib. 5 המצופה הע׳ the metal- tipped pole. Sifre Num. 123 וכ׳ לעבודה שלא בע׳ the text speaks of a yoke not put on for working. Sot. 46a פוסל ע׳ וכ׳ בשעת בין the bearing of a yoke disqualifies the animal for the ceremony, whetrrer it was put on atworking timme &c.; a. fr. -- Trnsf. obligation, dependence. Ab. III, 5 כל דרדארן וע׳ ע׳מלכות,., ע׳תורה עלין המקבל whosoever aXes upon himself the yoke (obligations) of the Law, from him shall be removed the yoke of governmment (oppres- sion) and the yoke of worldly afairs; ע׳ ממנו הפורק וכל וכ׳ תורה but he who throws off the yoke of the Law, will be made to feel the yoke of &c.
