פיתוי, פת m. (פתה) 1) persuasion, enticing. Tanh. Shh'moth 19; Ex. R. s. 3 וכ אליך באתי בפ Icame to thee with persuasiveness (mmaking thee believe that thou didst hear thy father's voice), that thou be not afraid. Ib. פ׳ בתחלה וב׳ אותך פיתיתי at first I spoke persuasively to thee, now I will speak to thee words of truth (earnest admonition). Ib. לשוןפפ אלא איןפתיpethiarov. XIV, 15) has the meaning of 'persuasion (one easily persuaded); a. fr. - Esp. enticing a virgin, claims of the seduced (Ex. XXII, 15). Keth. 35b פ׳ ולא קנם לא לה אין she has no claim either of fine (for outrage) or of indemnity for seduction. פיתולא, פת׳ m. (פתל) [twisting,] 1) perverseness. Targ. Prov. VIII, 8. - 2) turn of events, vicissitudes. Yalk. Gen. 12 (play on נפתולי, Gen. XXX, 8) דידי לא פיתוליה וכ׳ הוהwere not his vicissitudes mine? did not Jacob come to Laban for my sake (I being predestined to become his wife); Gen. RR. s. 71 הויין דידי לא פישולייה (pl.)..
פיתום I (b. h. פתם) pr. n. pl. Pithom, a storage city of Egypt. Sot. 11a תהום פי ראשון שראשון פ שמה נקרא ולמה בולעו why was Raameses named Pithom? פיתק, פתק m. (פתק; v. פיטק) ball, stone, tablet. ballot; lot, decree. Tanh. B'ha al. 12 בידו עולה שהיה מי כל וכ׳ כתוב פ׳ he who drew a ballot on which 'eldef was written. Tanh. B'midb. 21 וכ׳ כתוב פ׳ בידו עלה אם if he drew a ballot on which Levii was written, he knew that a Levite had redeemed him. Num. R. s. 4[read;] אומר מי וכ׳ שלא לוי של פי׳ שם היה שאם לך who tells thee that I should not have drawn it, had there been a ballot in- scribed Levi' in the box?
