פנקריסין, פנקרסין m. fl. (~~~~~~o) [altgold,] name of a fruit, prob. apricots. Y. Sot. I, 17b top יפה וכ׳ מפפ׳ . better were the late fruits than the apricots &c.; ib. IX, 24b bot.; (Y. Peah VII, 20a bot. מפרסקין). Y. Sabb. III, 5a כפ׳ יפה וטעמן and their taste was as delicious as that of apricots; Y. Ter. II, 41a bot. (corr. acc.). -- Y. Ab. Zar. II, 41d שלהן . . . פ׳ apricots pressed by gentiles (prob. to be read, as Bab. ib. 38b; Tosef. ib. IV (V), 11 קפריסין).

פנתיר, פנתר m. (~~~~~) panther or leopard. - Pl. פנתירין, שנתרין. Midr. Till. to Ps. LXXVIII, 45 (expl. ערב ib.) וכ׳ והביאן ׳ ושמה הוא חיה מין (not והביאו) it is a species of wild beasts named leopards, and the Lord sent them &c.; Yalk. ib. 820.

פס II m. (b. h.; פסס) 1) strip, stripe. - Pl. פסים, פסין. Gen. R. s. 84(ref. to Gen. XXXVVII, 3 sב., a. Ps. LXVI, 5 sq.; v. עלילה) why 'did they hate him'? That (in the course of events it should come about that) לפניהם הים שיקרע פ׳ פ׳ the sea be rent before them in strips (ed. WI].. ים פס פסים passim alludes to strip of the sea'). - Esp. (cmp. פרק) יד פס, palm, the hand froom the wrist to the tip of the fnger; רגל פס the foot to thhe ankle, interch. with פשת, פית (constr. of פסה). Ib. (expl. פססים, Gen. l. c.) ידו פס עד מגעת שהיתה the coat reached with its sleeves tto his wrist; ידו בפם . . שהיתה it was very fine and light, and could be (compressed and) hidden in his hand (cmp. מלמלה). Meg. IV, 8 (24d) ידו פס על . . . נתנה וכ׳ if he placed the T'fllin on his forehead or on his palm. Yoma 87a (play on התרפס, Prov. פסג, Pi. פסג 1) to divide, branch off; denom. פסיגה. Par. XI, 9 ואוגדו מפסגו he severs the stalks of hyssop and ties them; אגדו ולא פסגו iff he severed, but failed to tie them. -2) (denom. of פסיגה) to cutt off sprays, to thin. B. Kam. 119b גפנים ומפסגי אילנות מפסגי (Ms. F. ומפסיקי; Ar. ומפסקי) those hired to thin trees or vines; (Tosef. ib. XI, 18 גפנים מפסקי only).
