פסג ch. same, 1) to divide, cut apart. Targ. Y. Gen. XV, 10 (O. פלג, h. text בתר). Ib. XXVI, 31. Targ. Y. Lev. I, 6; a. e. - Part. pass. ססיג. Gen. R. s. 100 תרעך פ׳ may thy ill-luck be broken (no more evil befall thee, --which allowing the meaning may thy gate (חרעא) be broken,, is corrected to תורעך יסוג, v. סוג ch.). - 2) to break through a snare, escape. Gen. R. s. 79 פסגא . . . שמע כד when R. S. heard the heavenly voice say demos (v. דימוס II), itt (the bird) escaped; Yalk. ib. 133 פשגא (Ar. פשגה הות). -- B. Kam. 81b דניפסוג that he may be permitted to break through (the vineyard), v. preced. Pa. פסיג, Af. אפשיג to divide. Targ. Y. Lev. I, 12 יסשיג (some ed. יפשפיג; ed. Vien. פישג, corr. acc.). Targ. Y. I. Ex. XXIX, 17 תפסיג (Y. II תפשג; ed. Vien. תפפק). - Lam. R. to V, 5 וכ׳ ליה מפסג (ed. Wil. מפסל, corr. acc.) he cut him up limb by limb.

פסגה f. (preced. wds., v. פסיגה) 1) branch, bough, opp. to אשכול the trunk with the grape clusters. -- 2) (b. h.) pr. n. Pisgah, the summit of Mount Nebo. Sifre Deut. 357 (ref. to XXXIV, 1) ואינה האשכול מן מופרשת זו פ׳ מה וכ׳ מופרשת as the branch is separate from the trunk, yet not detached, so was Moses' grave &c., v. תם; Yalk. ib. 963.
פסד to cut, diminish; פסד (cmp. פגם, פסל) to lose in value, deteriorate. Y. Maasr. V, beg. 51a פסידין שהן because they spoil; פ׳ אינן חטין wheat does not spoil. Hif. הפסיד 1) to suffer loss, to lose, be att a disadvantage. B. Mets. III, 4, sq. הרמאי ה׳ מה כן אם if this is the law, what does the dishonest man lose (what risk does he run to prevent him from claiming more than his due)? Ber. I, 2 ה׳ לא . הקורא he who reads the Sh'm a after this, loses nothing; expl. ib. 10b ברכות ה׳ לא he does not lose the benedictions(hemay recite the benedictions preceding and following tthe Sh'm a as usual). פסד ch. same, 1) to be diminished, scarce. Targ. Y. Gen. XLVII, 16 (h. text) אפס). -- 2) to diminish, destroy. Targ. Ps. XLIV, 318ed. Lag. ששלח). -- 3) to ruin, spoil. Pes. 55b לגמרי ביעי לה פסדא she (the hatching hen) has spoiled the eggs entirely (made them unfit to be eaten). - Part. pas. פססיד. Ib. וכ׳ ביעי פסידי לא אכתי (Ms. M. ביעא לה פסיד; Ms. K. לה פסדה לא) the eggs are not yet entirely spoiled. Af. אפסד, אפסיד to injure; to spoil, ruin. Keth. 56a אנפשיה דא׳ הוא איהו he brought the loss upon himself. B. Bath. 139b אנפשייהו אפסידו אינהו they brought the loss &c. Sabb. 108b ליה מפסידנא קא אפסודי (by salting the radish) I vitiate it. פסול ch. (denom. ofפסול) to be or become disqualifled, unfit. Men. 100a וליפסול ליקדוש ליפסל (strike out ליפסל, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) let it become sacred (by being put in a sacred vessel) and subsequently become unfit (when it becomes overdue); ib.b; Yoma 29b ותפסול תקדוש; a. e. - V. פסל.

פסול m, פסולה f. (פסל; cmp. פגם) defective, blemished, unfit, disgualifed, opp. כשפר. Zeb. II, 1 כשפך פ׳ וספו . .. if the blood was spilt over the pavement, and one collects it again, iit is unfit for sprinkling. Ib. 3,v. פיגול. Hull. I, 4 פ שחיטתו his slaughtering act is ilegitimate (the animal so slaughtered is forbidden to be eaten). Ib. כשר וכ׳ במליקה פ׳ בשחיטה what is right in slaughtering, is illegal in pinching (the neck) &c. Zeb. III, 2 הכשר קבל לפ׳ ונתן if a person qualified for the service received the blood and handed it to one disqualified. Gen. R. s. 70 וכ׳ היה הבית פסול אליעזר Eliezer was the disqualified (servant) of the house, and yet it is written &c. Kidd.
