פרם (b. h.) to tear open; to strip. Sot. III, 8 האיש ופורמת פורעת . . ופורם פורע the (leprous) man must let his hair grow and tear his garments, but a woman should not &c,; SifraThazr. Par. 5, ch. XII;Y. Sot. III, end, 19b. Hor. III, 5 וכ׳ מלמטה פורם גדול כהן the high priest in mourning tears his lower garments; ib. 12b פורם..פפורמין אינו he does not tear his garments in the manner ordinary people in mourning do; Sifra Emor ch. פרם ch. same, to cut, split, break into; to chop, hash. Sabb. 74b סילקא דפרים מאן האי (Var. in Ar. דפריס) he who minces beets (on the Sabbath). Ber. 39a פרימי פרמינהו רברבי Ms. M. (Ar. פירמי, ed. רבא פרימא) if he chopped them into large pieces. M. Kat. 25a וכ׳ בבא פרום Ar. (ed. פרוס; Ms. M. 2 פרון) they broke through the gate, and carried the body out; a. e. -- V. פרומאה. Ithpe. איפרם to be cut, chopped. Hull. 30b sq. גידפי חזינן דמיפרמי we see that the feathers (of the throat) are cut through.

פרן m. (פרר) a building with a gateway leading from street to street (cmp. פלש). Toh. VI, 9 (interch. with בסילקי, v. Maim. a. l.). -- [R. H. G. reads פרון and explains light- house (א~עoo )-which, however, does not fit the context.]
פרן (cmp. פרם, פרס) to cut, divide; cmp. פסק,] to assign. Hif. הפרין to assign, provide, endow. B. Mets. V, 5 שדהו על ומפרין Var. (v. פיז) and may make an arrange- ment for his field; expl. ib. 69b לי חן ואומר . . השוכר וכ׳ ואפרנסנה זוז מאתים if one rents a field at a rent of ten Kor of wheat a year, and says, lend me two hundred Zuz and I shall improve the field, and I offer thee twelve Kor a year (v. פרה Hif.). - Esp. to endow a bride, to promise a dowry. Gen. R. s. 60 (ref. to Gen. XXIV, 60) they were poor בפה אלא מפרינים היו ולא and endowed (the bride) only with their mouth (with a blessing); Yalk. ib. 109 וכ אותה מפרינין היו ולא(notאותו);Gen. R. s. 74 end מפרינים; Yalk. ib. 130 מפריכין (corr. acc.; Ar. מפריסים, v. פרס).
פין ch., Af אפרן same, esp. (of the husband) to endow the wife, settle the dowry (מוהר or כתובה). Targ. Y. I Ex. XXII, 15 יפרין מפרנא (Y. II יפרן; h. text ימהר׳ מהר). Targ. Y. Deut. XXI, 13 (h. text ובעלתה).
פרן פרנא פורן פורנא, פרנוןm. (preced.) the wwife's settlerment, dowryt(corresp. to b. h. מהר a.later כתובה). [The phonetic coincidence with gepyb gave riseto the orms פרנוון, פורנון, a. to combination with פרא, v.פראפורנון.] Targ. Y. II Gen. XXXIV, 12 וכתובתא פורן (h. text ומתן מהר). -- Y. Keth. VII, 31c top פ׳ בפלגית תיפוק . . . אתא (not בלא) the case came before R. J., and he decided, let her be sent away with half her dowry; פ׳ בלא היא שוטה אין שלים פ׳ תיסוב . . . if she is a faithless wife, let her be sent away without any dowry, and if she is not, let her receive her full dowry ; וכ׳ פרנהה אייתון they produced her deed of endowment (K thubah) and found &c. Ib. VI, beg., 30a פורנה, v. מרק. Ib. IX, 33a top וכ׳ פרונא אבד אי(corr. acc.) iff the deed of endowment shall ever get llost, you may write another. Gen. R. s. 80 פרנון, v. פראפודנא; Yalk. ib. 134 פורנון. Gen. R. s. 17; Lev. R. s. 34, a. e. וכ׳ עלי רב פ׳ her endowment is too large for me, and I cannot divorce her. Y. Keth. XI, 34b וכ׳ פרנה תבעת as soon as the widow asks for her dowry, she loses the right of alimentation. Bab. ib. 67a (in Hebr. dict.) מהם פ׳ גובה אשה a widow may seize them for her dowry; a. fr. -- Trnsf. an endow- ment, good lumk. Ib. 54a bot. (if outfit articles have be- come cheaper) ליתמי פ׳ it is the heirs' good uck (i. es. they furnish the outfit as defined by the deceased, at present prices).
