פשיטות f. (v. פשוט) the plain heirs right, single share. Y. B. Bath. VIII, 16b top אביו פ׳ ליטול to take the plain share to which his father would have been entitled, opp. כפילות.
פשיטותא ch. same. Sot. 13a, v. בכירותא.
פשיטנא m. (פשט) a low, spreading plant, fern. Sabb. 110b וכ׳ ם׳ ליתי Mss. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note; ed. פשטינא; Ar. פשישנא) let him take a fern and boil it in wine &c.
פשיעה f. (פשע) trespass, negligence. Y. Sabb. XIV, 14c bot. וכ׳ בפ׳ מתים . . תשעים ninety nnnine persons die through their own fault against one through the hands of heaven (a natural death); Lev. R. s. 16. -- Esp. negligence in guarding a trusdt, indictable neglect (Ex. XXII, 8). B. Mets. 94b לפ׳ שקרובה אבידה losing which comes near to wiltul neglect, opp. אונס. פשל (cmp. פתל) to twist, knot, v. infra. Hiff. הפשיל 1) to knot and fasten. Tosef Sabb. IV (V), 2 זנבו תחת הרצועה את ויפשיל and fasten the strap under its tail; Y. ib. V, 7b bot.; Bab. ib. 53a יפשיל Ms. M. (ed. יפשול). Tosef.ib. VI (VII), 9 וכ׳ לאחוריך ידך חפשיל אל do not twist thy hands on thy back, lest we be prevented from work (a superstitious belief); Yalk. Lev. 587. -- Esp. לאחוריו ה׳ to twist or knot a bundle and throw it over one's shoulder. Succ. 27b וכ׳ טליתו . . . ה׳ R. El. tied up his cloak and threw it over his back and went of; Tosef. ib. פשע (b. h.)[to pass beyond,; 1) to be wilful, rebellious. YomaV, 2 פשעתי;ib. VI, 2סשע, v. עוה;a. fr. פושע a wilful transgressor, rebel, apostate. Gitt. 57a ישראל פ׳ a Jewish apostate (the censor's disguise for Jesus). Ib. בין מה חזי תא וכ׳ ישראל פושעי come and see the difference between Jewish apostates and gentile prophets. R. Hash. 17a פ׳ בגופן ישראל ewish sinners with their bodies (disregarding the ceremonial laws intended to guard the purity of life); בגופן העולם אומות פ׳ gentile sinners with their bodies (lustful and violent). Midr. Till. to Ps. LII אומר כשאתה לר משזלימים הפושעים כל תקבלני אם .. . לפושעים when thou sayest to the sinners, why have you not repented? (they mmay plead ignorance of thy goodness,but) if thou receivest. me, all sinners will make peace with thee; a. fr. -- 2) to be faithless. Gen. R. s. 52 (ref. to Prov. XVIII, 19) פעת באברהם thou (Lot) wast faithless to Abraham; Num. R. s. 18 וכ׳ בתורה שפ׳ קרח זה this refe s to Korah who was faithless to the Law, which is called 'strength'; a. fr. -- Esp. (with ref. to Ex. XXII, 8) to be negligent in guard- ing a trust. B. Mets. 36b וכ׳ בה פ׳ if he was careless in guarding the animal, and it went out &c. Ib. 34a כיון וכ׳ פשעתי שאמר as soon as he says, I have been at fault', he surrenders the eventual fine (of the thief) to the owner. Ib. 58a פושעים להו לקרו דלא היכי כי in order that they may not be called faithless guardians; a. fr. -- Ber. 28a פושע ונקרא and he is called negligent (because he delayed his prayers). Hif. הפשיע to cause to transgress. Num. R. s. 9 (ref. to Ex. XXII, 8) יהיה לא בדיבור ישראל שה׳ באהרן מדבר it alludes to Aaron who caused lsrael to transgress the commandment, 'thou shalt have no other gods &c. (Ex. XX, 3).
פשע ch. same. Taan. 24a וכ׳ מחשדינא דפ׳ מאן כל if a. child rebels (refuses to study),Ibribe him by giving him &c. Giit. 36a בינוקי שע הוה he was faithless to (maltreated) the children; Macc. 16b.
