ציפורי, ציפורים, ציפורין, צפ׳ II pr. n. pl. Sepphoris in bpper Galilee. Meg. 6a וכ׳ צ׳ זו קטרון Kitron (Jud. I, 30) is Sepphoris, and why is it named S. Because it is perched on the top of a mountain like a bird (tsippor). B. Bath. 75b בשלותה צ׳ ראיתי אני I have seen S. in her prosperous days. Sabb. 121a, v. גסטרא. Y. Kil. ציפורית f. (ציפורי II) of Sepphoris. Tosef. Maas. Sh. IV, 13 וכ׳ צ׳ צ׳ הימנו נוטל טבירית טריסית .. נותן if a man lends his neighbor a Tiberian lressis, he must accept in return a Sepphorite ressis, and vice versa.

*ציפיא f. (צפה; cmp. Syr. צפיותא, P. Sm. 3429) clearness, the liguid parts of honey cells. Sot. 48b דבש מןהצ׳ הבא the honey which comes from the inner portions of the cells (=צופים נופת), v. נופת; Y. ib. IX, 24b bot. דבש בצפייה הבא honey which comes in a state of clearness.

Vien., read; בפיצתא.]-- Sabb. 140b וכ׳ חדתא אצ׳ . . . בר a student at the school house should not sit down on new matting, because it ruins the gar- ments. ציץ ch. same, 1) to stand forth, shine, bloom. Targ. Koh. XII, 5 ותצין Var. (for ותפין, v. פמן; h. text וינאן). Targ. Ps. CXXIX, 6 (Ms. יניין; h. text שלף). --2י) to look for, search. Targ. Prov. II, 4 ed. Lag (v. בא).
ציץ II m. (b. h.; preced.) 1) something glistening, foil. Tanh. Vayetse 12 (describing the Teraphim) . . . מביאין וכ זהב צ על וכותבין they get a firstborn man and slaughter him and write the name of a spirit of uncleanness onn a golden plate, and put the plate under his tongue with sorcerous ceremonies &c. - Esp. fhe highpriest's front plate. Succ. 5a וכ׳ טס כמין דומה צ׳ the front plate was something like a gold foil &c.; Sabb. 63b. Zeb. 88b ... צ׳ פנים עזות the plate procures forgiveness for sins com- mitted by effrontery. Gen.R. s. 71 צ ובזה צ׳ בזהiin this (the tribe of Levi) is the sheen (of the high priest's frontlet), and in that (the tribe of Judah) is the splendor (of the crown, Ps. CXXXII, 18); a. fr. - [Pl. ציצין. Tosef. Sot. III, 4 ed. Zuck. בצ׳ with fineries, v. צלצול.] - 2) blossom. Gen. R. s. 53 (ref. to Is.
